This is a shooting forum, there is no place here for logic.

Shop for a Steyr in a cartridge that you want. Keep the 270 Steyr as it is for a back up.
More than one rifle is part of the fun of it.
A glance at the net shows that they were chambered in 7X64
All guns should be locked up when not in use!

Alot of people waste of money on rounds other than the 270 WCF. Never could figure out why. dave
Only accurate rifles are interesting.

Why bother? you have a rifle you like, you may or may not be able to have it bored out. That bore out job may or may not be successful and produce an accurate barrel, and the rifle as is has blood all over it for memories. Buy another rifle in 280AI if you want one. problem solved, everyone is happy.

Just wondering if it was possible. I know they came in 7x64 and have been looking for one of those too. I found one in 8x57 that has been on gunbroker forever.
There is nothing wrong with a .270 and as I have said it flat out kills stuff. Not sure how the Wby would work with the mag though?

No, just Ackleyize your .270. Then you can keep the bolt same-same, the barrel almost same-same. The good part about Ackleyizing is you'll burn out the barrel that much sooner and then can justify the .280 AI.

............. It's just that removing 0.007" is simply not enough to clean up the rifling during the re-bore, and then cut new rifling. ........but it will make the rifle kill stuff much better.... .007 is , after all, a quantum leap! So how'd Ingwe take over Bob's keyboard?? Finally, some sanity from the granite state !

Shot it and it shoots way to good so a .270 it will stay. I did repaint it for the 3rd or 4th time and used Krylon textured dark gray with silver specks.

pacecars...I have a Mk3 in 30.06 & Professional in 7x57 with iron sights & scope....a good friend has a Mk3 in .270 that is an absolute giant killer.
Handloaded 130g Barnes for long range pronghorn and 160g partitions for Hogs. Either end of shooting spectrum handled!
I like my 7x57 because I do not shoot much past 200 yards and for what ever reason I find Steyr's stock fits my shoulder/neck/eye position. Easy recoil-hits hard.
The 30.06 is sort of redundant but is one of those - shoots 150g to 220g at 100yards in a 3" pattern - whatever load I use it is ready with each weight about a 1" group. If I sold it it would be one of those regrets later on (unless the replacement made me lose my Steyr memory)
The way Steyr's barrels are shrunk into the action does not make them gunsmith freindly and the rear locking lugs are like nothing else. I would use the bucks on a bunch of new cases and premium bullets with your favorite powder and bang away!
