"Liberty" #1B I had never heard of Leupold having a 7.5 power fixed scope, but that is what it says on the scope. I am told it is a tackdriver, we'll hope it is indeed another #1B that shoots well. Maybe I can get it running for deer this year

I tried some factory loads today, and it had no trouble grouping 1-1.5" at 100 yards. The scope has some issues, and I couldn't get it well focused at 100 yards.
I reckon this one will have a go at deer this year, or maybe even mulies next year.

Very nice rifle with some great wood. That will be a nice long range hunting rifle. I just bought a No.1 in 7mm Mag and realy like the 7mm Mag cartridge. It's the first 7mm Mag I have ever owned. Going to reload? I just picked up some 7mm Mag RCBS dies. I think I'm going to start with Hornady 139 gr bullet and IMR 4350 powder. Might be a little light of a bullet for the 7mm Mag but that all I have for now other than 3 boxs of 175 gr.

I will eventually work up some Reloader 22 loads for this .270. It's a little temp sensitive, but it doesn't get that cold there, anyway.
I would think R22 would also be good in the 7 mag, again with the caveat about cold weather.

Folks buying Liberties should be aware of a small -- infintesmal? -- chance of getting a salt wood stock.
I have one in .300 WM and three or four others have come forward during my rsearch on ruger colector sites who also have salt wood stocks from that date. Ruger denies it ever used the wood but then so did OJ.

Thanks for the head's up. I am actually planning to strip it down & clean the internals, as there is some dried oil on the sides of the breech black, and probably more inside. After cleaning it will get inspection and some break free & syn grease where appropriate.

Beautiful rifle, tex. Good luck hunting with it. Be careful while cleaning not to get any aggressive metal cleaner/degreaser on that pretty stock. Some of the cleaning stuff available on the market makes an aweful mess of a stock finish.

Thanks, just plain old Break Free CLP and elbow grease is all I have in mind By, the way, here are some of the groups it recently shot, with some win factory loads: (the group on the left is out of a Liberty .30-06)
