Have you messed with the 200 grain accubonds at all?

The 200 gr NAB is the only Accubond I've worked with in over 8 or so different 30 Cal's that shoots VERY well... it generally shoots better than the 200 NP in any given rifle I've tried both in (mostly various 30-06's and 300 WSM's).

The Accubonds I have tried are accurate but for the type game I am hunting the partitions shoot plenty well enough.

I use 59 grs. of H4831SC with the 200 gr. Nosler Partition. Clocks 2672 fps. in my 24 inch Pac-Nor barreled Mauser. I've run it as high as 61 grs. w/o any pressure signs.
Zeroed 2.5 inches up at 100 yds., she's down 7 inches at 300 yds. E

200gr NAB shoots great out of two Win mags I've had.

Can anyone comment on the effectiveness of the 200gr Partition vs. 200gr NAB on game (deer & elk) at 30-06 and 300 Win Mag velocities? Seems that both bullets are easy to load for in terms of accuracy. Partition costs a little more where I shop and has slightly lower BC. I'll probably stick to the NAB for the Winnie, but might consider the Partition for an 06 if this bullet is better at the lower muzzle velocities.

Hi MD and Phil,

This post is just in time! I just purchased my first .30-06. An unused FN-Akah made in the sixties. It has been in a closet and has a few rust dots outside but a pristine barrel with no traces of cooper inside!
I allways thought to match my 7x57 175 grs NP load with a 200 grs NP .30-06. I think your experiences are what I am looking for!
Thank you very much!
PH
By the way, this is the rifle. It came with this Meopta 4x32 scope with a N 4 reticle!! My favorite all-around kind of scope.

PH,

Nice rifle! I'd certainly bring that one home myself....

My .300 Win loves the 200 gr Accubomb, I have not yet killed an elk with the AB, however it works well on thinner skinned game. That said, you will have no issues with either. The partition is still the standard of comparison for controlled expansion bullets. My .270 prefers the 150 partition to the .277 AB choices.

MD,

Thank you! I am very excited about this rifle! Just tried with what I have at hand: 165 grs Hornady Spire Point and R19 (the Alliant are the only powder we can get now in Argentina..).
My first group was 4 cm at 100 mts. Good enough to start!
The rifle fit me very well! Has a beautiful balance! It feels like the Mauser 7x57. The same general drop and pitch. Great!! I must get some 200 grs Noslers and try in a Red Deer around here.

Imagine a 300 Winchester Magnum 20" barrel carbine firing the same 200 grain Nosler Partition bullets.

What if any practical field difference would that be from a 30/06 using the same 200 grain NP bullet?

The muzzle blast of a 20" barreled .300 Win would be impressive to say the least. However, shooting 200s out of an 06 works, and works well. It won't win any speed contests but the partition will open up well.

My brother Steven has had a liking for my 30/06 for years. In as much as he is now fighting cancer caused by agent orange expoure. His wish, is now my wish for him...

I bought the 300 Win Mag intending to rebarrel it to 270 Weatherby or 7mm Weatherby. 270 Weatherby ammo seems more readily available.

Phil, et al... Please give me some practical feedback on 300 Win Mag versus 270 Weatherby versus 7mm Weatherby. For shooting big game at ranges past 300 yards.

Thank guys

Due to the wide selection of .308 caliber bullets I would much prefer the 300 WM over the Weatherby loads you mentioned.
With the availability of good rangefinders the perceived importance of a slightly flatter trajectory is not an issue.

Would you opine from your experiences, what factory ammo would be a good choice for a critter under 600 lbs?

I appreciate your time sir!

If I ever do another 30-06 I am going to give the 200 NP a whirl.
I really like that bullet, even though I have only run it "supercharged". That is, out of a 300RUM @3200fps.

For what chambering? Did you rebarrel the .300 or are you looking for suggestions for the .300?

I am asking for a recommendation for factory ammo to use in a 300 Winchester Magnum which would have a 20" barrel.
