Some interst in the Weaver 2.5-8x, but I am not able to picture what the three parralel crosshair reticle might look like or its function. Are all the same diameter? Sounds like the reticle might be a tad confusing on a shat that needed to be made kinda quickly. A little more explanation, if you would please.
Might be a good fit for my 1952 FN in 30 Belted Newton. The current Bausch and Lomb adjustable bases set up is getting on my nerves, too difficult (for me anyway) to really fine tune the rifle's zero.

Most of the early variables had first focal-plane reticles, to elimnate the problem of point-of-impact shift when changing magnification. The only problem with this was the apparent change in the size of the reticle along with the view.
This doesn't actually happen, since the reticle stays the same size in relation to the target, unlike second focal-plane reticles, but various companies used different reticles to cope with the problem, usually some combination of thick and thin.
Weaver's solution was the three parallel crosshairs, both horizontal and vertical. The two outer crosshairs are a little thicker, so when magnification is turned down (usually for closer-range shooting) the three crosshairs appear enough like a single coarse crosshair to be useable for quick aiming. At higher magnifications the middle, fine crosshair is used.
One advantage of this reticle, as Elmer Keith pointed out, is that since it doesn't change in size in relationship to the target, the crosshairs spacings can be used for range estimation. The three horizontal crosshairs can also be used at different ranges, just as in many ballistic reticles today.
In my experience with both the B&L and Weaver adjustable mounts, the Weaver is more easily fine-tuned!

It's a great old scope, certainly not up to today's $1000 wonders, but El Paso Weavers are probably the most under rated scopes out there. Heck most folks have never heard of them. Have two of the ones JB has listed, one in original mounts, one in Leupold Adjusto Mounts. The triple CH takes a bit of getting used to, but being a FFP scope, you can use it for ranging, holdover and hold off. The external adjustments also make it more weatherproof than the typical other weaver Ks of that period. Also makes for a great conversation piece at the range or in camp. Kinda of a "poor man's Unertl".
