I am concidering useing the 200 Gr.NP,in my 30-06 for everything from antelope to moose and elk.What kind of sight in should I use and what can I expect out to 300 yds. or so.

2.5 to 3 inch's high at 100 yards. Hod 4831 is the powder to start with.

What Phil said. I've used the 200 Partition from the .30-06 for 35 years now, on animals from pronghorn to elk. It shoots a lot flatter than most people would think, about as flat as the 180. I've tried some other powders but nothing so far has beaten H4831.

Question related to another thread, but what about the 200NP from the -06 on the big bears? Perfectly adequate for the big ones, the minimum, not enough? Where would you, those who have hunted them repeatedly, place it?

For you two experienced fellows, does the 200 grainer offer any significant advantages over the 180 which would override the less flat trajectory?

Better SD and, if I remember correctly, better BC as well. Which, if you plan on shooting at longer ranges, will mean less wind drift and abit more energy delivered to the target. and to answer prm's question : Yes, in the 30-06 they work great on big bears. I have used them for virtually all of my hunting over the past twenty-five years including some big bears. Great combination, 30-06 and the 200 grain Partition.

Jim,
I usually use 60 grains, which hasn't shown the slightest indication of excessive pressure. Muzzle velocity averages 2650, give or take 50 fps, depending on the barrel.
One thing Phil didn't mention is that the partition is further forward in the 200 than the 180, the reason the 200 penetrates quite a bit more. I've shot lengthwise through mature bule deer bucks with the bullet, and once put one up the wazoo of an already hit bull elk. The bullet ended up somewhere in the chest (never found it) and the bull dropped instantly. That's the only one I've shot into game that didn't exit.

200 gr Partition and the 30-06 is an awesome combo!! And, as JB says, it shoots much flatter than most people think.
