Mystery of Wisconsin punt protection woes solved!

[Linked Image]

Yep, been that kind of week. After blowing a game at State by making every mistake in the book, the boys in Cardinal responded by repeating most of them again on saturday. All in the interest of science you see... just to make sure that yes, giving up blocked punts for touchdowns and last second Hail Mary's can cost you wins. :p

I can sympathize with the young men who made those costly mistakes. Looking back over this past couple weeks I kind of wonder what I was thinking. It's the time of year when many of us begin playing for pride cause we sho' nuff ain't in the fight for much else. Time to cinch up the chin straps as we head into November and the final stretch.

Sgt217 came in with the big win last week and has contributed 5 good games this week. Reapercrew our other winner from last week is AWOL but I hope he enjoys these picks we made for him. We missed out on the NI vs Toledo game because of time constraints but I will be watching it tonight just because it is two very good programs who rarely get a chance to show how good they are on TV.

Week #10 - Games List:

1) Michigan at Iowa
2) Texas Tech at Texas
3) Ball St. at Eastern Mich
4) Louisville at West Virginia
5) Cincinnati at Pittsburgh
6) South Carolina at Arkansas
7) LSU at Alabama + total points tie breaker
8) Notre Dame at Wake Forest
9) Kansas St. at Oklahoma St.
10) Oregon at Washington

Good luck,
Will

Texas, Michigan, Iowa, Pennsylvania...geezeee they're all in there except for Utah.

The football Gods hate me. They really really do!

Good night for the NI - Toledo game (28-24), because the only other familiar thing on the tube is the biggest loser, which is what Brother Moses will be. Right behind me. And Caps hockey!

As usual--great intro Will.

I'm digging this game. Even over hockey

38-35 Toledo in the 3rd. Still a lot of football to go. Would have set a great tone to this weeks picks.

AWOL? I think not... just lurking in the shadows until I posted a respectable week.

Sorry about your Badgers Will, that's a pretty crappy two weeks to effectively end your season.

Northern 63 - Torpedo 60: like Will said, very entertaining game by teams that don't get a lot of tv time.

There is a silver lining in all of this conference shift you know.

Some of these smaller schools we watch in off-nights will be given the opportunity to move up. I hope one or two wind kicking the crap out of the big boys.

In a week where CFB takes a back burner to more important things, watch out for me since I have nothing to play for, nothing to lose.

BTW-The more important thing for me was the birth of my newest Buckeyes Linebacker (all 6# 15oz of him), Dylan at 10:05am on 11/1/11. We have a thing with dates as my now middle boy was born 05/05/05. I now will have a punter, a QB, and a Linebacker on the OSU squad in the next 10-20 years. So proper introductions out of the way, a win this week would top off a nearly perfect fall week in this household.

1. Iowa 27 Michigan 24-How do you pick this one? Neither team has beat a team with a pulse with the exception of Michigan beating Notre Dame, and Notre Dame more lost that game then Michigan won it. That and the fact that Notre Dame is not the team that they were thought to be (again!), makes this a tricky pick. The last time that I swallowed my vomit and picked Michigan they rewarded me by getting their asses handed to them made this pick a little easier on me.

2. Texas 31 Texas Tech 15-WTF happened to Texas Tech last week? Boy they really built momentum after their beat down against Oklahoma, didn't they? Losing their next game against Iowa State 41-7 is not the building of momentum that they wanted. Texas should handle them, but then again this Tech team is so schizo that anything could happen?!?

3. Ball State 20 Eastern Michigan 17-This is a coin flip game, but since I think that 80% of the field will probably take the 2.5 points that is given to the home team, I'll try to make up a little ground on this one. Besides homefield advantage really doesn't mean much when you're playing in front of 5k people. Kudos to Eastern Michigan, two or three years ago, they were THE worst team in the nation. They couldn't beat a wet noodle. They are now a contender in the MAC this season, although still not the cream of the crop. MAC type schools have a real hard time having a consistently good program since they are jumping point schools. If their coach is any good they jump off to a bigger program so you rarely find dominance for long in this conference. BTW-Did 5sdad have a hand in picking this game?!?

4. West Virginia 31 Louisville 24-I don't think that this one would be close other then WVU has now become the villain in the Big East. How dare they try to move to an actual football conference and not get left behind with jack didly squat when the Big East falls apart at the seams or at the very least loses it's auto-qualifier status.

5. Cincinnati 42 Pitt 13-GD. Who put Pitt, my arch picking nemesis, on the board? You will pay for this, whoever you are. I am doing a reverse voodoo hex backwards AND upside down to get rid of the dark power that is my Pitt hex. I actually feel pretty good about this one. For a while at the beginning of the season, Cinci was the best team in Ohio. I don't think that they still are since OSU found a little tiny bit of offense, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them win the Big East. Jones is a good football coach and I didn't see him taking long to build this program. With them just getting into the meat of their conference schedule, we'll have to wait and see, but don't be too surprised to see this team in a BCS bowl this season. But only if my Pitt Hex has been lifted.

6. Arkansas 28 South Carolina 13-USC(e) just don't have any weapons on offense anymore. Garcia, as awful as he was at times, could also play lights out. Lattimore was a shame to see go down like he did. It was about even between him and Richardson as to who was the best RB in CFB. James up in Oregon deserves some love too, but I see him as more of a specialist that fits a system well then a good all around RB. Oregon could put the fastest guy on any team in America into James position and coach him to go out and do nearly as good of a job of it as he's doing. If they have his kind of speed they would probably excel in that offense as well. Arkansas had a couple of WTF weeks the past couple of games, but I don't think that they will put it back together against the ol' ball coach. It's amazing that USC(e) has had as good of a season as they've has so far but they really lucked out in their cross divisional games this year by skipping LSU and Bama.

7. LSU 24 Bama 21 Total Points 45-I find it interesting that Bama is 4.5 point favorites. You would expect 3 points or so for home field advantage, but someone obviously thinks that they are a better team then the #1 team in the land. Neither team is a killer on offense, although both can move the ball effectively. Both teams are GREAT on defense. I, as a mere mortal, would tremble with fear if I was an offensive player or coach if I had to face either of these teams defenses. I think that LSU is slightly ahead of Bama here. Bama is overall very strong on defense, but I think they lack the explosive players that LSU has in this area. I think that offensively this game is a draw. Coaching is a draw, b/c even though Miles puts on the persona of a mildly retarded cousin, that man can coach football. So we are down to LSU's slightly superior defense VS Bama's homefield advantage. Since this game will be won or lost on defense, I don't think that homefield advantage will play as big of a rule here as the 4.5 points that Bama is given. Anyway you look at it, this one is pretty much a coin flip, and could turn into one of the best games that has ever been played. I am as excited to watch this one as I normally am to see my Buckeyes play. In fact, if it wasn't for the birth of my new son, I was going to get tickets to go see this one in person. As it is, I will have to settle for watching it in my man-cave with my (now) 3 boys. If this game is closely contested, I would have no problem with a rematch of this game as the MNC game provided Stanford and OK State lose, which I think that they will. The NCG is supposed to match the two best teams against one another. Barring anything happening, I think that so far this season these two teams are so far ahead of everyone else that this is the season that it could happen. Boise State should not get the shot if they are the only unbeaten team other then the winner of this one. Playing Georgia and then 11 cupcakes does not make you a contender for the MNC. At any rate, should Boise get the shot at it, either of these teams would dismember them, then proceed to eat the guts left on the field.

8. Notre Dame 42 Wake (Run)Forrest(Run) 17- After a 4-1 start to the season, Wake is even money on even getting bowl eligible. Their best shot is against Maryland or Vandy, not here. Notre Dame likes to beat themselves, then have their coach give up on them. Class, Brian Kelly, class. I still think that he is a good football coach, just a good d-bag too. To give up on your team, then to call out and divide your team is stupid as a coach. Then to run up the score on an out-matched service academy (even one that had your number the past several years) shows you the kind of character that is leading this team. Kelly will win Notre Dame some games in his career there, but he will also cause them to be the most hated of teams in the country. This will keep him from winning a National Championship there, every team they ever play will be playing inspired football against them.

9. Oklahoma State 42 Kansas State 28-I sooo want to go with K-State in this one, but just don't think that they have the firepower to hang with OK State. I don't think OK State will cover in this one, but just can't see Kansas State scoring enough points to win. I do think that OK State will lose one of the next three before taking on Oklahoma, but I just don't think it will be this one. If I had to pick a 2nd favorite team in the Country, K-State would be right up there. Bill Snyder is as classy of a coach as you will find, and a DAMN fine football coach as well. He does as good of a job as anyone (with the possible exception on Chris P at Boise State even though Boise State is attracting some serious talent these days) at making the most of the talent available to him. K-State just doesn't attract a lot of Blue Chippers.

10. Oregon 49 Washington 35-This one should be a high scoring romp-fest. Oregon will win this one, probably by 2+ TD's. I don't really see this one as being very close. Washington has a pretty good record, but they lost BIG to the only two decent schools that they've played. IF (Big IF) Oregon has a slow start, or for some reason can't really get going, Washington has a chance since they can hang some points on the scoreboard, but I just don't think that they will be able to slow the Ducks down enough to have more than about a 10% shot at it.

This week will come down to who picks the Bama/LSU, Ball State/Eastern Michigan, and Michigan/Iowa games best. Throw in my Pitt Hex, and that one could help decide this weeks winner too. The other games probably won't determine the winner since most of the field will pick the heavy favorite so even a major upset should do little to decide the winner. It would cap off a near perfect week for me if that winner happens to be me at the end of the day Saturday.

I knew a lady named Garnette once. I don't think that you'd want her on your football team (even with the intended pun). I don't even know what color that is, sounds pretty smile

They will follow in their dad's footsteps and play for The Ohio State University, or if not offered there, either a MAC school or the highest quality team that offers (except for Michigan, they would be thrown out in disgrace). We live, breed, and play nothing but football in the Roy household. My 6 year old know every play in the Buckeyes playbook, and you should see this kid throw a football. Granted he can only toss it 15 yards or so, he looks like a pro doing it. My oldest, at 8 years old has pretty severe respiratory issues, so he is now practicing to be a punter or place kicker since I don't know if he'll be able to compete at a high enough level at a normal position. He can punt an official size/weight College Ball 20-25 yards with a beautiful spiral now, something we worked on all summer with him. My youngest at 30 hours old has the mental toughness to be a LB. He was just circumcised today, he pissed on the Doctor and yelled at him loud. If that don't scream Linebacker, I don't know what does smile

How long does it take to learn "roll over and cry"? wink

Seriously, if your son is LB potential, there are great programs in the football WINNING part of the country that could train him well.

Nebraska comes to mind... wink

Roy;

In all seriousness, good luck to you and yours, and best of luck to the kids.

If they make the college levels, I'll root for them. Unless it's tofu, the whinin' Irish, UofSpoiledChildren, or "da U".

I'm guessing the Bama or Ball St games. Ball St has me 0-3 this year. I hope I kill my buck early on opening day MZ this Saturday. I don't want to miss a second of the LSU/Bama game.
