Well I bought a FM Hi Power clone in stainless steal from a friend this morning for $320. It looks like a great gun and is in great condition but I probably won't keep it. I took it to another friend that was interested in it. He has let my hunt his companies lease for free for the past four years and I wanted to return the favor and let him have it at cost. He wasn't sure if his wife would let him spend the cash so we worked up a trade. He is going to give me a FEG Hi Power in great condition and $150 for it if he likes how it shoots. So how do you guys think I did since I will wined up in the end getting a FEG Hi Power for $170.
By the way I know the pistol was probably worth more then I sold it for but I wanted to bless a good friend who never hesitates to bless me.
Whatever a 7x57 can do a 270 can do better.

The FEG is the better pistol, and worth at double what you're going to have in it, if it's in great condition.

why would the Hungarian FEG be 'better' than the Argentine Hi Power? The Argentine pistol was a correct, and licensed product. I don't believe the FEG was licensed.

The metal, fit/finish, and tempering on the FEGs are better. The FM might have been "licensed", but the FEG is an exact clone, with better execution.

Both, however, are but mere 9 "sillymeters" Flame retardant being applied....

I doubt anyone would want to volunteer being downrange and catch one from my HPs. 124 .355" @ 1240ish is awful damned close to the 125 .357" 1250 that made the .357Magnum famous.
Having 14 on deck, and pointing as naturally as your own hand, whilst fitting as perfectly in said hand as your own... Well, it just lends to hitting well, fast, and a lot.
If I want/need more, I just reach for "God's own": 1911 .45ACP.

I know, they are quite deadly these days with modern ammo. Just rattling a few chains with my nickname for the round.

There are 14 GoldDot 124 JHPs that chronor about 1240 within arms reach right now.
I know how accurate they are, and have no qualms relying on them.
with FMJs, the 9x19 sucks. With good bullets, it's put a LOT of men in the ground.
Put it in something that carries, handles, points, functions, and shoots like the BHP (or clones) and it's damned near cheating. I'll stack my odds that way. And, do.

We did the trade and I got the FEG. It is actually in better condition than the FM with minimal shooting wear and only one minor scratch on the finish. Here is a pic of it before I cleaned and polished it. Also a nice suprise was how well it fit the Blackhawk leather holster I have for the Ruger 1911 I have on order.

Difficult to tell from the pic, but I don't detect the oval on the frame which indicates the presence of the original locking system. FEG made some with the S&W locking system, and if it's one of those, your buddy got a deal.

Yeah it has the S&W system and I wanted to give my buddy a good deal. He has done a lot for me over the years and I wanted him to walk away with the better end of the deal.

I don't pretend to be an expert on these but I thought the ones that are supposed to be more like an S&W have the safety/decocker going all the way through the slide, which I don't see on this one?

Both are great guns, but I agree with VANimrod that the FEG is typically the better gun. The main reason is the post-1980 style feed ramp on the FEGs, vs. the old humpback style on the FMs that sometimes need some work before they function 100% with hollow points. I wouldnt hesitate to build a full custom gun on an FEG, theyre good to go. On the FEGs though, there are some that LOOK like theyre real Hi Powers but actually have a S&W style locking system. These are good guns, but you cant drop an aftermarket Hi Power barrel into one, and many parts are not interchangeable. The change was to accommodate .40 caliber Hi Powers, so it is a very solid and strong system. These could be the only truly +P rated Hi Powers out there. FEG didnt make very many .40 caliber guns before they became defunct. You can learn all about the FEG Hi Powers here: http://feghp.blogspot.com/2010/02/decoding-feg-hi-power.html

Thanks Kevin. I read that guys blog last night it was very informative. I do have the S&W style but wasn't planning on customozing it anyway. I was just looking to get a reliable inexpensive gun to leave in the truck.
