Ok guys getting ready for a Colorado Elk hunt. Plan on doing some trout fishing for a meal or two. Any advice on best baits to use mid-october for lakes or streams? Rooster tails. panther martins, clear bobbers and fresh bait??? What are your favorites? I'll be using a lightweight spincast.

I slayed stocker rainbows last year in a NW Colorado lake on powerbait just prior to 1st rifle. I usually like panther martins or flies, but they wanted the real stuff in the fall.

I kill them every summer up there...just got back 2 weeks ago....for 10 yrs all I've used is either a 1/8 or a 1/16 oz. white roostertail with a silver spinner...not gold....I catch them at will out of puddles, streams, rivers, and lakes....

I'd go with wet flies and bubble that takes on water for weight. Light, compact and simple. A fly fisherman at heart I am. E

I'm a rooster tail fan also, all black with silver spinner. Second choice would be a panther martin with silver spinner. My favorite bait is a small piece of bacon as it works year round and is good for more than one catch as well as nibblers.

very small panter martin, black body. yellow stripes, brass spinner. the best thing that I have ever used up in the mountain lakes. unless they are taking an elk hair caddis.

Late trout fishing in high mountain lakes around here usually require worms or salmon eggs, occasionally you will get one on a spinner/spoon but if you're hungry just do worms and salmon eggs, Vern.
