Bob, as Hammerdown pointed out, it has indeed been cut to 23".

It's scopes with Leupold 6x36LR in Low Talley Lwt's. With Uncle Mikes Mountain Sling and four rounds it weighs 6lbs 10.5 oz's.

He's a good smith and pushes my little projects through pretty quickly. Got back in town Thursday evening, picked the rifle up Friday am.

Did my usual tunings and tweaks... emery'd the feed ramp and underside rails, degreased bolt and trigger, tuned the trigger to 2.75lbs, mounted the Talley rings in JB Weld, bedded the forward receiver and barrel lug (Acraglas Gel). Saturday I lapped the rings and mounted the scope (in Rubber Cement), loaded up some rounds and went to "the range" (our rural property north of town).

Whew, I'm exhausted laugh

BTW Bob, you ever use magnum primers in your 270's?

I went back to my notes form the mid-90's and found I was indeed running a mag primer in that M70 fwt 270.

Yes Brad; I use Fed 215's with RL22,RL25,and 7828.

One 270 went from so/so to outstanding (great accuracy and low spreads)with R22 once we made the switch to the Fed 215's.It doesn't always work like that....but....

Ever since seeing that I do use them with the slower burners. H4831 does fine with std WW primers IME.

Reading back, I discovered JOC used CCI 250's with those old WW II H4831 loads.

Groups are about .6-.7 with just about all loads and this from a 6 pound 4 ounce rifle with a 3x9 Ultralight. The 130 Scirroco's are good for about 3" which has been my recent experience sadly.

Ditto that... never found them anything other than pattern makers.
