Has anyone ever ordered any of the "made on demand" wooden grips by Hogue?

Midway has a huge assortment of these listed on their site with "Special order--90+ days". I thought the manufacturer may have been a little faster or possibly have them in stock so I dropped the cash with Hogue. After they processed the order, I got an email saying that my order had been exported and estimated ship date was approximately 30 days out.

I just wanted to see if anyone else has gone this route and if they were happy with the product.

I've had some of their specialty grips but got them various ways without ordering directly from Hogue (GunBroker, came on the gun, etc.). What are we talking about here, auto or revolver?

Okay, first let me say I don't even like to pick up a revolver with rubber Hogues on them, and I hate finger groove grips with a passion.

But a couple years back I traded into an N-frame with a huge honking smooth wood Hogue finger groove grip on it, and I actually liked it. It was comfy and well-made. Definitely not a ccw grip but I would consider one again if I needed to put a handle on an N-Frame. Middle one in the pic obviously.

Me too. I'm still waiting for the day that finger grooves allow me to position my hand correctly. Two of my revolvers have grips with finger grooves - a M617 with S&W Combat grips (A Combat .22?) and a M629 used solely for hunting. Recoil management is a non-factor with either revolver.

Forgive me my nonsense, as I also forgive the nonsense of those that think they talk sense.

I have a Walnut set for a Ruger flat top bisley. IIRC, it wasn't a special order but I still had to wait for it.

Some fitting required.

From my experience.
It's usually a week or two for smith grips from hogue and that's for checkering. High quality grips, great finish, material, and fit.
The Ruger single six and Blackhawk grips are excellent too.

Those look sharp Rufus. I am not a huge fan of finger grooves either here lately. It seems I am always fighting the ones on my Redhawk to get the gun positioned the way I want.

The ones I just ordered are for my SP101 (I've dubbed it the Chickenhawk). I wanted something that bridged the gap so my knuckle wasn't right behind the trigger guard and I didn't want to go with the ubiquitous rubber and plastic stuff out there.

I guess I will see how they work when they show up.

I have ordered several sets from them for S&W's and a Browning Hi-Power. They were all special order. They looked great and came in a timely manner.

Got a call from Hogue yesterday telling me that my order was shipped. I placed the order on Oct-21. That's less than two weeks from date of order to manufacture to shipment. I don't guess that is anything to complain about. Just got to wait for it to show up now.

I had some on my Colt Python and they were pretty damn nice. Very minor fitting required.

New grips showed up. Kind of bitter sweet. The fit and finish of the product are great. The design is of the grip is not what I was expecting.

This is the picture Hogue has on their website. I know the specific firearm pictured is not correct but I still expected a more square butt grip.

Here is what showed up:

I probably infered their comments and representations a little incorrectly but I still felt a little disappointed when I opened the box.

Just wanted to put that out there for anyone thinking about ordering from them.

The gun in the picture is a square butt grip and the one on your gun is a round butt grip.

Dude, I would send those back. That's not anywhere close to what you wanted. Hell, that's 180 degrees of square butt...

Can't you tell them you have a round butt frame, and want the square butt grip?

If you are talking about what kind of grips my frame will allow, not quite...

The SP101 is a peg design so you technically have unlimited options in what you wrap around it.

Here is a shot from Ruger's website:

I have sent Hogue an email asking about the misrepresentation and I am waiting on a reply. I haven't had a chance to call them yet.

Just waiting to see how they respond.

Oh! Guess my dumb ass should have looked at the actual revolver... LMAO!

Yeah, for an SP101? That's just the wrong damn order. I'm sure they'll fix it.

I bought a set for a Ruger Blackhawk and they didn't fit very well. They are inexpensive.

I was just getting ready to order a set for my Sig 220 as they look good and aren't too expensive. Will wait to see how this plays out before plunking down my money.

Got a reply.

Basically, it boils down to the round butt design is the only design they offer for the SP101 and they just don't want to update the pictures for every model offered. I could ship them back and get a refund, but I would be stuck with the factory grips again looking for something else.

I don't like the idea of keeping them just because of the principle of the matter but I will probably hold onto them anyway just to see how they work.

Years ago, I purchased this Hogue grip for my Python from a gunshop and fit was OK.
