Hello all,
I am looking for an ejector for my Savage 1907 recently purchased with this part missing. There are none to be found (as yet) on GB or GA, and Numrich says they are sold out. I am hoping to find one at the bottom of someone's drawer or parts bin, or if someone has a "parts" gun where this part was not needed for some other restoration project. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Pete

Pete,

Several different (updated) ejector versions were used for these during the production of the 1907 (1908-1920). While some can be swapped, not all can. It would be helpful if you provided either the s/n of your pistol or the specific version of the 1907 (14 .32 versions, 6 .380 versions, by the usual classification).

BTW, the 1915 and 1917 used the same ejectors as most of the 1907 versions. The .32 and .380 pistols of the same period use the same ejectors.

Basic rule -- you should be able to use a later version ejector on an earlier pistol, but the early version ejector may not work well on a later pistol.

I have contacted Jim Shaffer who is looking, but has not got back to me. I posted this question before I spoke with him and he stated the same thing as you have. He required the S?N to determine correct fit. The S/N is 57200. In the meantime, I tried the extractor from each of the other three I own (20861, 53283, and 191026) all seemed to function correctly, at least when cycling snap caps. The odd thing is that I could NOT get the breech plug from either 20861 & 53283 to install in 57200. The breech plug from 191026 is out of the questions as it has an extra circumferential lug on body and won't work in the older slides at all. (This gun also incorporates the trigger lock rod that locks the slide lever.) There is an ejector listed on GB, and I did a hand held comparison to the picture, but just not certain it will work. I sincerely appreciate your response. If Jim can't help me, then I may try GB if the part is still available. I almost bought a parts gun for this purpose but fell asleep at the bidding wheel and missed the opportunity.

Pete,

You might check with a guy named Henry Brubaker at hcbrubgmail.com; Henry has a good number of used Savage pistol parts (all three models, but few m1915 parts) he is selling; some of these are currently on GunBroker. You can tell him I gave you his email.

With a s/n of 57200, your pistol is from the last version of the "early" model 1907, the 5th .32 m1907 version, what is usually called a 1907-10-2, made 1910-1911, approx s/n range 19500-65000. The parts diagrams for the model 1907 & 1910(!) Savage pistols on Numrich are for your pistol. (see: www.gunpartscorp.com/catalog/Products.aspx?catid=1334)

The breechplugs for 20861 and 53283 should work -- these pistols are the same version as 57200, and use the same version of the breechblock. In fact, while there are five different versions of the .32 breechblock for the m1907, m1915 and m1917, all five of the early m1907 versions use the first version, which is the only one with a single lug.

On the other hand, it is not unusual that some (usually minor) fitting might be required. While these pistols were factory made using standardized parts, 100 years ago "standardized" meant a lesser degree of uniformity than now. Breechblocks were individually fitted to slides, and the rear of a slide could be modified to fit a breechblock (which is why some Savage pistols have a greater or lesser space behind the rear sight than other examples of the same version).

BTW, while the extractor did evolve, my best recollection is that you should be able to use any model and version's extractor & spring in your pistol.

Bill
