Just picked up a used set up with a 20" .460 barrel. Anyone have one? Any insight on them? Range? What loads are you shooting? Will be used for Pa Whitetails, and possibly Pa Bear.

i have the short barrel katadin in 500 s&w. the sights on the gun are wrong for the cartridge as you can't get it sighted in. the front sight is too tall if i remember correctly. didn't matter as i put a 2.5 leupold on it. a customer has one and he ran into the same problem with the factory open sights.

I dont have a Encore but i do have a Ruger.no1 with a 24" douglass barrel. I shoot 35.5 gr (max) of 2400. 210m primer and a Hornady SST ML 300gr bullet. shoots sub 1". Velocity is 2175. another good load is 43.5 lil gun with a Barnes 290 gr (flat base) ML bullet. 2300 fps. shoots 1" I havent killed anything with it yet but its really hard on steel targets! sighted 3" high at 100 Yards put u about 4" low at 200. I really like mine!

I just traded into a a 15" 460 Encore barrel with a 2" muzzle break permanently attached making it 17". I plan to set it up with the pro hunter flex stock similar to my ported 444 katahdin barrel.
I currently carry a S&W 460v as a back up since our lease is getting over run with bears.
looking forward to shooting the 460 as a "carbine".
