Man....I've never wanted to get a deer at any point as bad as I did today. Any deer, doe, nubbie, anything would have made that little boy's year so far. That would have been a better trophy than any other I've ever downed.

We still had fun though.

you need to bring him out here antelope hunting.....you and ND could make it a trip.

I'm going to start a petition for the state of MN to reintroduce the white tailed deer to the bovine TB eradication area of MN..

We have no deer.

I think they should live trap those metro deers that everybody hates down by the twin cities and haul them up here to chickenbuck and turn them loose.

Having had the chance to spend some quality time with T-Zone and his son, I can tell you that he is a great kid. The fate of our sport is in great hands with the likes of Jackson forming the next rank of hunters. He's one neat kid. 'Can't wait to do it all again next year.

Of course the only tracks we cut on the way out of the woods were withing 50 yards of your stand. I didn't have a track by the wood pecker stand...not a one.

I would have done some walking if jack was up to it and found some. Those low temps were too much for that little guy to handle though. The last thing I was going to do was make him stay out when he didn't want to.

well doggone it. i had high hopes for the chickenbuckaroos this rifle hunting season. you still have ML though!

My brother and I were in a long tail rooster tourney on Saturday and did pretty well. We ended up with 43 15/16 inches for 2 tails and 4th place. There were a lot of teams that hunted all over west central MN, so we felt pretty good. Especially considering the nasty weather. It was brutal out there in the morning. Saw quite a few roosters too, which was great!

What do you think of the gun, Dave?
I've got my eye on a Stainless/black laminate M77 Compact with the shortened fore stock and 16.5" barrel.

I've looked at the full size too, but I think would be a nice walking gun in 7mm-08

FWIW, the MS260 (now the 262 I think) is their small pro-line saw.
The MS360/1/2, and MS460/1/2 are the mid-size pro-line saws.
Without getting into all the exceptions, the 60-series (26x, 36x, 46x) is the pro-line. So a 260, 261 or 262 is a stronger saw (power to weight) than a 290, 291, etc.

When they updated the 026, it became the MS260, then the MS261, then I think the MS262....so if you're shopping for a saw now, the best saw in each respective size would be the MS262, 362 or 462.

MS262 will cut circles around the Farmboss (MS290) day in and day out.

I like the saw...It would get a lot of use around my place if I could ever get it away from my dad.

I'm kind of a winchester M70 guy but there was enough about this M77 to like. I've been tinkering with it for a couple of years now, finally breaking into load development for the rifle. I am happy with it and I am also confident that I can become even happier with more hand load experimenting.

I'm a little dissapointed that I didn't get to shoot a deer with it this year. Guess I'll have to take it out and shoot a coyote with it.



The rifle did shoot a bear this year but not with one of my handloads.

It was a very effective black bear deadener with 140 gr winchester powerpoints.

Thanks. Ironically, I'm not "new" to the fire. I discovered this thread back in fall of 08, after my uncle died in Sept 06, and my grandfather in Aug 08. They were my hunting buddies, and taught me everything I knew since I was younger than PWM. I'd moved away from home and hadn't hunted or spent anytime in the woods for a few years, but finding this thread got me back in things.
I went and got licensed up. Took all the courses required here in Canada to acquire and possess firearms as well as the hunter safety stuff. I registered on the campfire in 09 and have been following this thread ever since. I usually leave it over the winter and summer and catch up again every fall.
I've only got 5 posts on the campfire, and they're all on this thread.
