i worked up few loads to 39.5 grains of im4064 with 55gr vmax this evening then went out to test them. all loads in 4064 powder completly bit royla dog ssssss.

last time at the range/desert i was strickly shooting 50gr hornady vmaxes with outstanding results. then somehow in town we seem to have run short on the 50gr 220 ammo. so i was forced to get 60gr hornady hollow point ammo.

let me tell you. sited in with them this evening and i was amazed again.

lowerd the point of impact at 100yds and fired a few 5 shot groups. dang rifle just doesnt stop amazeing me.

so ive decided to run hornadys 60gr ammo while im playing with loads. the way i load its going to be awhile. i did not care for the 4064.

next on the list to try is h414 and 4831, and 50gr vmaxes. want some nosler to. i do want to try the 53 triple shocks just for fun and. seeing as how this thing is just shootin great.

man im loveing the #1.

Evan

almost forgot to mention we turned a few jack rabbits inside out with the 60gr hollow points this evening.

I like the 60 Hornady and Accurate Arms 2700 ball powder.
Try 37.5 grs IMR 4064 and a 55 gr Sierra boat tail. If I remember right that should shoot pretty well.

Evan,

Give the Hornady 60 gr spitzer soft point a try. I have had almost twentyfive years of success with it in my 22-250.

been awhile since ive been here.

figured its time for an update.

i loaded quite a bit for the 220 in the last few months. i dropped 3 difrent powders 2 oddball ones in the 220. rl 199 and imr4350 think i may have done a few loads of imr4831 to.

but heres what i found to be the most acurate far and above all the other powders i have. i picked up some h380 because i wanted to use it in the 22/250. got to lookin and found that many have found very good results with h380 in the 220.

i had heard of 40grs under 55gr bullet somewhere so i loaded a few loads ending at 40grs. to my stonishment the 40grs under 55vmax was the best load of the bunch. produced the best groups ive ever fired through the rifle.

original plans were to load 50gr vmaxes because it shot 50vamaxes through facotry stuff better. but thats changed now that ive got 55s shootin so dang well.

the 220 also has a few more coyotes and other little critters added to its list of kills.

still lovin the #1

I have found that it is impossible on my #1 in 220 Swift to seat the 60gr bullet out far enough to be .010 from the lands.
Anyone else have comments about seating depth?

There's a like new #1 in 220 Swift trade-in at the local shop that has a real nicely figured stock on it. $499. I don't do much with varmints, but the way you describe it would make it an awful fun gun to shoot.

I have found in my Ruger .220 Swift that 44.0 H-414 and
the 55 V-Max are super for pd's and yotes.

my 220 must not as as long throated as i thought.

ive been loading 40gr nos bts and seating them on the lands, useing h380 powder. also played a bit with berger mefs and imr 4831. were i found good acuracy. but i need to play with the bergers some more to match what im doing with the 40gr bullets.

as of right now h380 and 40gr noslers is where its at and what im working on loading for this years rock chucks and ground squrels.
