I have thought and thought about the remarkable appeal of John Barsness here and everywhere he is read.
It dawned on me that, in addition to his phenomenal talent at writing, and his unfailing good humor, John has a limitless curiousity about all things hunting, shooting, and living in general. He examines things great and small, and manages to convey both the process and conclusions with a joy he passes to us.
What a treat!

John is about the only writer that I'll take the time to read. As Tonto would say, "Him speak with straight tongue."

Mr Barsness has always replied to my endless plaguing him with questions( some not as intelligent as I thought.... ) with prompt and to the point accounts of his experience or lack thereof. A great asset one would be a fool not to tap.

John is truly the real deal. He is a greatly gifted hunter, an always-questing handloader who is never satisfied with "common knowledge" and is interested in all aspects of life.
Most of all, Johnny is a loving and caring friend. Karen and I will never be able to adequately thank John and Eileen for that total gift.

He is a man who appreciates Classics, and he exudes Class. I'm sure the members here know how fortunate we are to be able to ask him questions and correspond personally.

He is my shooting / loading guru ! I agree 1000% with all of the above. I owe about 99% of what I have learned about hand loading and rifles to John !

I truly appreciate his practical sense, unlike some who milk a little something for all it's worth (usually not as much as they think!)
My first REAL appreciation came from an older Gun Digest article when he was guiding, he looked around at all the plastic stocks, Hubble scopes, etc, and asked "Whatever happened to using a .270 and a K-4 Weaver" or words to that effect. That struck me as eminently practical, which is sadly lacking nowadays.

John has shared so much of himself with us through his writing and participation on this forum that we feel he is one of our most admired friends. John, you have many thousands of "friends". Few people in any field are held in such high esteem by so many. Thank you again, John, for all you do.

I'd like him to write more about that .29 cal. rifle and about grass seed in shot shells.
