Many years ago my Dad and Mom went to a reunion of his squadron coinciding with some other event the Air Force had going on at Edwards A.F.B.The Air Force assigned some young firebreathing officer to look after the old farts.
Mom was curious as to why the young officers were so much smaller then to older fellas.
Seems the older generation air planes didn't have hydraulics and you needed a larger guy to bull the aircraft around the sky.

Thank goodness he is a marine as the Army seems to have forgotten how to teach troops how to shoot, clear a weapon much less clean it. I got that from some Marines that have to play in the sand box with the Army in our current dirt wars. Said that the Sargent came around to make sure each weapon was clear, and even in some cases cleaned his men's weapons so he knew it was done right. To many talking about this to be untrue.
Yes I am former Army, Combat Engineer Instructor to be exact and we learned how to shoot, clean our weapons and clear them back then as it would either save our life, get you killed or someone you cared about if you could not do all of these yourself.
In a free country the government doesn't fear its citizens and there firearms. In a crocked government everything is up to be removed even the citizens if they truly believe in freedom.

I think every soldier knows how to keep his weapon clean
these days. Almost all the deployable units in the National
Guard have now served at least 2 combat tours to Iraq or
Afganistan. I think the success we have had, shows that
everyone over their knows their job or learns it mighty
fast.
