I know you guys!! Back in the wonderfull years of 1968 and early 1969 we used to catch you guys on the fire push doing insertions (Halo), and bright light missions. Always wondered what was going on over there (about twenty miles west), and finally got the answers in John Plaster's book. Those SOG guys thought you folks could walk on water. So be proud of the folks you ran with. Nice rainy day out on the Hiep Duc Ridge today. Got four F4's and a half dozen A6's about ten minutes out with a lot of snakeyes gary

Question for you folks that are in the club known as "Combat Vets":
How many of you belong to the VFW, DAV, and other veterans organizations? Many of us here also Belong to the American Legion, but the VFW is unique to a certain segment of veterans. gary
Although I was shot at on multiple occasions, I do not consider myself a "combat vet" like those who were, say, 11 Bravo's. I do belong to VFW, American Legion, Vietnam Veterans of America, AMVETS.

I went down in five birds, and always considered the crew on a chopper to be equale to anybody else. And you will find that 99% of the combat vets have the same exact opinion. Just the life expectancey of a door gunner alone is a scarey thought. In 1968 it was often measured in hours. I remember watching a Huey being shredded by a 51 cailber and saying to myself "whatkind of a fool would want to ride in one of those things!" Give yourself your just do gary

I used to cringe every time they armed it, screwed the probe in and we opened the back doors. I was always crapping my pants because I thought I would have a hang-up on the *rails* on the way out. Makes my skin crawl just writing about it.
