My son is stepping up to the new to him .270 fwt and we want to start loading 130 TTSX's, any favorite loads you might have to share? As he's just shy of 14 we don't need to set any velocity records.

Im thinkin in that gun, a full load will not bother him. When I get home ill look up my load data for my 270 with 130's TSX. Im pretty sure its the tried and true 60grs of H4831ssc.

Three different pre-64s have all preferred 61 grains of H4831 Extreme. In a 22" fwt barrel I get 3100 fps.

That is a top end load.

Slowing down a tripple shock may not be a good idea, speed is what makes them open up.

There is not much difference in recoil in a 270 and 30'06, lot of gun.

For my nephew, I loaded 110g Sierra Pro Hunters with 58g of Win 760 and the recoil was much less than the 130g load at 3100 fps.

Barnes also makes a .277 dia bullet in a 95g tripple shock(6.8). With IMR 3031, this bullet will not kick much at all and recoil will be much less than a 130g bullet load. Not to worry about the 95g TXS shooting holes through deer.

I shot a lot of Sierra 90g bullets on jackrabbits, they are very accurate indeed with IMR 3031 and AA2700.

My pre 64 likes the bullet with 61.5 H4831 but as normal work up to it. Seated at 3.365 very close to the lands in this rifle.

I run 60 gr of H4831sc under a 130 TTSX in my Ruger. Its a deer killer for sure.

Whatever a 7x57 can do a 270 can do better.

Randy another load worth trying may be the old ( real old )JOC load of 49.5-4064-130 gr bullet.

That charge of the faster burning powder has relatively mild report, not quite as much recoil (because the powder charge is lighter),and IME seems to give about 2900-3000 fps in 22" barrels.I would try it with a 130 Sierra first, then move onto the Barnes if you like.

This was the 270 load JOC used on his early northern Rockie hunts and killed everything up thru grizzly with it.

I found great accuracy with a boot full of RL22 & 7828.
7828 was best

gunnut both of those are good, too. I am liking 7828 the more I use it in a couple of rifles.62 gr is getting me about 3100 fps.

IMR 4895 is another winner. I've used 4064 & 4895 more than any in .270. good stuff. Lots of venison wink

54gr of imr4350,,IIRC Mule Deer said it was a factory winchester load for a long time. I have had good luck with it when the 60gr4831 classic load didn't work.

I've had several .270 Win. rifles and have used H4831 almost exclusively for over thirty years with no complaints.Bullet weights were 130-150 grains. Recently while working with a new Cooper 52, I tried about 15 bullets and several powders. The Barnes TSX BT 130 shot better than all the others, often grouping 1/2", sometimes less. Surprisingly, best accuracy was obtained with Reloder 19, then came H4350, and lastly H4831. Of course, this was with one rifle only, and the H4831 loads still managed to average slightly under an inch for three-shot groups.

The "Tipped" TSX 130 may do as well or even better than the plain TSX, but I have not tried it yet. The TSX BT was redesigned by Barnes in the interest of better accuracy; appears they got it right.

I'm running 56.2g of H4350. I developed that load when the TSX were relatively new and came with a note in the box saying that you could run them 1 to 2 grains over the X Bullet loads in the then-latest version of the Barnes reloading manual - and I had no pressure signs. They have since re-thought that advice and this load is officially over book max. Always start low and work up.

I too found Re 19 to be the accuracy champ in my Rem men rifle. I believe the load is 59 grains of Re 19, as seen in the RCBS advertizements.

For the 130 TTSX and TSX, I started at 58gr of H4831SC and worked up to 60gr.. Chrony was at 3030fps at 60grains. Alles in ordnung and don't remember to stay .050" off the rifling.

I used that load in my brothers Win M-70 Featherweight and it shot MOA.

Randy, try some Varget. About 45-46 grains with the 130TTSX.
He isn't going to get a big jolt, velocity in the 2800's but so what? Its something he can get accustomed to and then grow into combos that exceed 3000fps.
As always, do your own independent load research.

I like BW's Varget recommendation.

As always, H4895 is a top powder for reduced loads in 06-sized hulls... 42-43 grains will get around 2,800.
