If you have a factory action Rem. Sav. etc. It's easy for the bolt to be done less wear on the paint. But custom actions have a much tighter fitting bolt, you either use less material or not cerakote it at all. Most custom bolts get painted.

Your Tikka should be easy enough to paint. I've had Karl at Kampfeld customs paint my rifles. Customs and factory, he does a great job on them.

Is Cerakote suitable for Aluminum?

I am almost done with an AR raw casting, and need to decide between anodizing, which I think also hardens the Aluminum and some other type of coating.

I like what i have heard about Cerakote, but I don't know if it is a good choice for this application.

I would leave the bolt alone on a Tikka, they are so dang smooth operating.

I've coated a bunch of Tikka T3's. Go ahead and coat the bolt and handle. Mask off the bolt face and rear of the lugs. The bolt will work just as slick as it always has if your application is correct.

Do you need to remove the anodizing before Cerakote? or rough it up?or is it fine to coat the way it is? Aluminum trigger guards, sights, scope bases ect.

You don't have to remove the anodizing but it needs to be sand blasted to etch the surface. It can be hard to remove all the anodizing. A good rough it up will do just fine.
Good luck.

If you have all the stuff already the Cerakote seems pretty easy to use. I just tore apart my Finnbear and am re-coating it with the Air Dry Cerakote. However, the price that guys like Eddie charge is peanuts compared to the time and expense a guy like me is going through. I am not coating the bolt body, just the handle and the shroud.

It's not the destination...
