Hornady has really been stepping up to the plate with some great new .308" bullets.

Hornady has really been stepping up to the plate with some great new .308" bullets. But you have to get past the 'gamer' home page with all the crazy zombie stuff on it to see anything. They look like they're trying to sell cigarettes or beer to kids with that nonsense.

Does it have any advantage over the A-max????
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

It's a match bullet ! A 1-12" twist may or may not work for a long 195 Gr. , I'm skeptical !

I'm going out on a limb and guessing that this 195gr will fly well at 1/12 twist 308 Win speeds.
The 208 AMax works fine in my 1/12 308. Same goes with the 190gr and 220gr Matchking, and the 210gr Berger VLD.

And Berger recommends a 11 twist for their 210. I have no worries about the 195 in my 12 twist. Wonder if I can push it past 2600fps? hmmmmm

I was getting moly'd 190gr SMK over 2600 fps in a 26" bbl, with RL15.
I'll bet the 195 would easily get over 2600 fps with some moly, RL17, N550, W760, or MR2000, and 22" of barrel.
I'm hitting 2600 fps with 208s in a 20.5" bbl. I'm using moly, Win brass, and RL17.

When they once had a 190 grain match bullet that did not sell real well so they dropped it... YAWN...
I am more excited about the 225 grain 30 cal bullets they have released..

This new 195gr at BC .550 makes it roughly a twin to the 200gr SMK at BC .550. So, yeah, nothing really new, but I'm still impressed with Hornady's willingness to update the 30-cal selection. Recent additions in the BTHP line-up of 178, 195, 208, and 225gr show they have their head in the game.
I have a box of the 225s moly'd up and will be loading them in the 1/10 twist 30-06 over RL17. I don't imagine they will fly for beans in 1/12 twist, but I will probably fling a few out of the 308 to see what happens.
For my chamberings (308/30-06) the 208 seems the best balance between BC and MV.

Sort of thinking about having a short and semi fatty put together, tween a 7/08 and 308 now. This does make me drool a bit for the 308. Course that can change back to the lil 7 in about 4 minutes or so...grin. And then back again of course.. Dober

I haven't done the 7mm thing yet, but it sure looks good on paper. I seem to end up buying 308s since they are offered in LH varmint bbls.
I know a bbl swap is easy enough, but my practical nature makes it hard to discard a good and serviceable 308 bbl for a fairly small ballistic difference.

Dober Mark, I've been thinking along the same lines, with both a 7/08 AND a 260, to duplicate that Rem 700 with the Hogue stock and a short 20 inch barreled 308, that was nice and chubby... I know I'll get flamed here, but I never warmed up to the 308...although I like everything BASED off a 308 case it seems.. as far as the 308, since I don't shoot an M60, or an M14, I just can't see the reason for a 308 in my world, when an 06 exists... but an M1A in a 7/08 or 260 has always floated my boat... Springfield Armory even made some up in a 243 for a season or two...

My first "instict" was it didn't look too aerodynamic. And the bc published confirms this. Heck....it's only a .550 bc. The 180 accubond pretty much should match the performance of the 195 when you figure a bit extra velocity. And, the ab would certainly be better for hunting. For me the new hornady doesn't hold much in what I'd be looking for....but someday if they're on a blem list I'd probably grab a few.
