Hey guys I am asking for some input. I am looking for a line of sleeping bags to carry and looking for American made if I can. I can get BA and Wiggy's. Are there others that you like? Do you guys prefer Down over synthetic? Thanks Guys!

Are you using it strictly for backpacking?

If you want heavy , bad qualiy , and cold Wiggy is for you. Otherwise go with something else.

Yea mostly backpacking and some customers will be car camping?

Which Wiggy bag have you used? Specifically?

BlackWidowTackle, I would take a serious look at the Wiggy UltraLite, the wife and I have been using ours for going on 6 years now and they have yet to let us down. I've used mine on all my hunts and i've never been cold in it.

Do you really want your customers using your expensive down bags?

I bought a W.M. bag in late summer.

The only issue I have with it is the half length zipper. I prefer to carry a slightly heavier bag than I think I need, then unzip it and use it like a quilt if I'm too warm. Where I do my late summer / early fall hiking, the day temperatures can be the same but the night temperatures vary by 30 degrees or if the prevailing wind shifts.

Otherwise, it (HighLight 6'0") rocks. 16 ounces, packs small. What's not to like?

I'm pretty sure Mountain Hardwear is Chinese, but I sure like mine. Not sure on Marmot.

Marmot is also made in China.

Of those listed, only Feathered Friends, WM, and Wiggys are made in the USA.

I have a Mountain Hardwear synthetic bag too and love it. It is a 45* bag and I have been in single digits with it. When I woke up in the tent it was so cold that the condensation from my breath had formed icicles in the tent and when the sun started to come up they melted and my bag was soaked and I was still warm:)

Anybody use Montbell UL stretch bags? Are they also made in China?

Not sure where the Montbell bags are made, but I do have one and absolutely LOVE it!

Another plug for Mountain Hardwear. They are headquartered in CA and make some great gear. I have a 0 degree, 800 fill down Phantom bag that I used on a recent CO elk hunt and a deer hunt in OK. They are lightweight and compress to a very small size. In extreme cold, I use it with a bivy sack to keep it nice and dry.

Mont-Bell bags are all I use and yes they are made in China.

Feathered Friends and WM are very good.

Not made in the USA, but Valandre' also are excellent bags. They are made in France.

Western Mountaineering.

I have a Antelope GTX down that is 15+ years old. Am giving serious consideration to one of their synthetic bags. Buddy of mine has been using WM Puma synthetic. I tried it for one night and loved it.

Down last longer and it lighter, but you don't want to get it wet--even with water resisant shell.

Synthetic breaks down sooner than down, a bit more bulky, usually less expensive, and a with little water in the tent, or under adverse situations (like when evrything goes wrong) keeps its insulatiog qualities.

That's very disappointing....that they are are made in China.

My dad just went to china and it's not what I visualized after seeing his photos. Don't think of them as 1955 Korea anymore. Instead, think of them being more like Japan in the early 1970s.

Cold and bad quality is the LAST thing I see in our Wiggy's bags. Won't argue the heavy part though. But my wife is always warmer in her WIggys than the same temp rating Western Mountaineering and Marmot bags...
