I have a 99EG 300 Savage that has a Marbles tang sight. How do I raise the aperture to sight it in?
I really like lever action rifles. Sure it's romantic, but it's also very American.
I just wanted him to know, that I'm a bull too!

Below the aperture there are two knurled rings. The top ring is for height adjustment and the lower ring is a lock ring. To make an adjustment, loosen the lower ring, then rotate the upper ring to move the aperture either up or down. When you have made your adjustment, or adjustments, tighten the lower ring again. Hopefully, both rings turn with ease.

I will put some 3-in-1 on it tonight and let it set for a while, then try to turn it. That's what I thought I would need to do, but wanted to make sure before I started. Thanks.

OR......the stem is spring loaded and has a lock that locks it in the down position for storage. Mine sometimes sticks and I just tip the rifle up or down while pressing lightly on the stem to release that lock and allow the stem to srping back up to the shooting position. So are you trying to raise it into shooting position, or just change the elevation?

I figured out how to lock and unlock the sight, just wanted to make sure I was thinking correctly on changing the elevation.

Ixnay on th 3-in-1 oil. The stuff turns to varnish sooner than most other oils. I would use a better quality oil than what was state of the art 80 years ago. 3-in-1 has "gummed up the works" on a lot of mechanisms over the years.

I took her out to the range and shot her, high and to the right. I loosened the locking ring and brought the rear sight down. I took some time because when i would tighten the locking ring, it was raising the aperture a little. Got that figured out and tapped the front sight over and fired 6 shots with one called flier.
3 shots were inside 1/2" and 5 were under 1" at 50 yards. Pretty impressive (to me). I do like the tang sight and may buy one for my pre-64 32 Winchester Special.
