Here is a description of an auction that just closed and the subject rifle sold for $720.00 plus over $100.00 of fees and/or taxes.
Savage Model 99A, .250-3000 cal. lever action carbine. Serial #B036368. Excellent condition. Excellent bore. One of the early high-velocity cartridges that started it all in terms of spectacular kills. 20" carbine version. 96% blue is very nice. Stock is nice and smooth. Straight grip. Steel buttplate. Tight action. Weaver scope mounts on each bridge. Cartridge counter. Tang safety. No rear sight. High ramp post sight. Sling swivels. Pretty cool little carbine! 1970's production.

The sling swivels are aftermarket.
Probably paying for the better twist rate in the post-mil 250-3000's.

No problem, I learned about the twist rate here at the campfire.

those little post-mil carbines in 250 always seems to bring decent money... that one looked pretty good to me but I did not scrutinize it.

I've got one sitting in the safe.
Got some great groups with it till I had to steal the scope off it this year for a 110 in 7mm-08 that was sick.

I like those things. I'm waiting for one to fall out of the sky into my lap. Pretty much the only post-mil I give a hoot for.

All this talk about post mil 250 this and 243 that... If I didn't know better I'd say a bunch of hardcore pre-mil Savage collectors are gettin' soft.... That's ok, there's a few thousand uneducated bubbas out here to keep you company. One thing you'll like, if you're a purist bird hunter with a fine double, is that the tang safety makes sense. Nothing else about owning a post mil does though, they're complete and utter garbage. I'll PM my address to any interested so those abominations can be sent to me for immediate destruction.

I really like mine in .250. Very accurate tho trigger pull is a little sticky. I don't like the wood, which is heavy and crude compared to the originals. I've been thinking about having Dennis (Middaylonghunter) redo my stock when/if I can come up with the cash.

I had the chance to grab one in 300 Sav, probably the hardest to find in that model but I've got to many 300's as it is.
