It has taken me a while to get these downloaded, but here are the pics of two VERY excited kids that went deer hunting with dad. Cole is 9 and Cheyann is 13. She shot her buck with a .223 and 53 grain Barnes XLC's. This is her second buck. Yes, she shot one of the points off in the excitement laugh. I shot the 4x4 with a .25-284 and 115 grain Nosler Ballistic tips at 3,250 fps. Both bucks were shot at about 125 yards. It was a day I will never forget. Having my two youngest kids by my side and harvesting two really nice bucks at the same time was something most people only dream about.

This is a public land unit, which is a draw, yet only has a 4% success rate. In the background, you will see how steep the country is. We shot these bucks in an avalanche chute at about 9,000 feet. We were all pretty beat by the time we got them out. Good thing the chute was steep, or I would still be getting them out.

We located these bucks at first light, made the hike up to them and put the wammy on them. I was an amazing day and my daughter just HAD to gut her own deer. laugh Flinch

Hey Flinch - that's my MO- First confuse 'em by giving 'em a headache, then do them a favor by getting rid of it for them. smile

Nice work Flinch. My son didn't get to connect this past fall, but I was 10 years older than him when I first connected. He still has to "earn his stripes" wink Hopefully he can learn from all of my mistakes and connect in the next year or so. Love seeing it when us hunters get the kids involved.

My brother and nephew are going out tomorrow to try and fill his cow elk tag. My son and I will be along with them. Can't wait.

Also nice to see her "digging in" to take care of that buck. No matter how clean, it is still a messy job. Tell her congrats. Can't believe you got them out whole though. That is some steep country there. Did you ride them like a sleigh down the chute? That would be an adventure laugh

Flinch;
Thanks for sharing this special hunting memory with us, it's so good to see families out hunting together.

Please pass along congratulations to your daughter on that nice mulie buck. At 9000'in steep country and gutting it herself, she really earned it I'd say. cool

You get a tip of the hat for doing all the groundwork to ensure this hunt took place. Well done sir!

Thanks again for sharing this with us. All the best to you and yours this Christmas season.

Regards,
Dwayne

That's the first time I've seen someone put a long-sleeved jacket over a short-sleeved T-shirt before starting in on the wet work. Interesting system you have there. Has your wife been complaining about too little laundry to do?

Way to go Flinch. There is no better time afield than time spent with your kids. Merry Christmas.
