Is the barrel on the 1A the same size as on the 1AH?
Thanks, Mike

Mike,
The barrel contour on the #1-AB, #1-A, and #1-AH are all the same.

GH,
Aren't some of the ABs in .25-06 a bit longer -- 24"? I n never mmeasured my .35 Whelen 1A before selling it. Was that ne slao the same sporter profile?

1B 1B You are correct. The #1-AH in .25/06 is indeed 24" I was thinking the original question in terms of barrel contour not length. The .25/06 is the only 24" one made. All the rest were 22". GH

I bet the 25-06 balances pretty nicely.

None of my other factory No. 1's come close to balancing or feeling as good as my 1-AH.

BigSky.. is the AH you're talking about a 25-06. I like the round. I hunt with a .250 Savage a lot.

(sorry Bricktop ) Mitch is right, they are a little tougher to find, but in my opinion worth the effort and the money. I think El Numero Uno here on the Campfire might still have some available.

The one I had, (Past tense) I got from Lee (El Numero_Uno). First class guy to deal with. He has many toys from Ruger to mull over.

I am away for the weekend and you are talking about me! Thanks, since it is mostly positive. I do have several of the AH's(and AB's)in .25-06 with the 24" barrels. I have had over 40 of them and am down to just a few left.

My brother hunts with a 25-06 Ruger 77. He likes it and says it kicks A LOT less than the old BRNO 30-06 that kicked the snot out of him when we were kids. I don't see how because the BRNO was way heavier, but maybe. The stock on the BRNO actually broke a couple years ago under recoil. El Numero Uno Sir - Do you have any 30-06 or 270 1A's or 1AH's that you're thinking about offing?

Mike, I think I have the 1A in every caliber(For Sale) except those two! I have an early .243 with "employee" grade wood. I have the Boddington Leopard in 7x57. I also have the 1A in .30/30, .257 Roberts, .303 British, .35 Whelen, 6.5x55, and the K1A in 257 Roberts and .250 Savage. Also, both the AH and AB in .25-06 with the 24" barrel. And probably something else I can't remember right now! ENU

ENU, The K1A is a stainless version of the #1 isn't it? I love the .250 Savage and took a spot and stalk Blackbear with a .99 so chambered this year. I took a look at your Website. Nice job.
What is a good condition 1A in 30-06 selling for now? I think I'm gonna stick with a little bigger round as if I really like shooting it I might want to be able to use it for Elk. Mike

Mike, I knew I forgot one; I have one of the Cabela's 1A's in .30/40 Krag, with Circassian wood. I think you can pick up a 1A in '06 or .270 off the Internet Auction sites for about a minimum of $650 on up. Condition, wood quality, and whatever scope may be on it might up the price. Yes, the K indicates stainless, but these Lipsey's Exclusives have walnut stocks, instead of laminate, like the cataloged models do. ENU

Now that one's tempting.. I got a buck with a old '98 .30 Govt once. Wouldn't it be cool if Ruger stamped em .30 Govt?

On second thought, I'm sure someone would try to stuff it with an 'o6

I believe that instead of .30 Govt. that .30 Army would be good.
Shew me thy ways, O LORD: teach me thy paths. "there are few better cartridges on Earth than the 7 x 57mm Mauser" "the .30 Springfield is light, accurate, penetrating, and has surprising stopping power"
