When I get around to replacing it, It will go on a chain around my neck. Get a chain long enough to wear it by your heart. Chicks love that stuff!

I've gone to wearing a band made of tungsten carbide. That's when I wear one.
As a matter of fact I picked up a new one yesterday, as my old one was too loose due to my weight loss.

Put it in a small pouch in your pocket when you are working, I have had to cut way too many "squished" rings off of people to ever wear mine in a hazardous environment (as in "squishing") of my fingers.
Just always have it on when it is safe. Excellent suggestion! If for some reason working with a "bachelor" finger bothers you, have an unsquishable work ring made of heavy tool steel. Have it plated if its appearance is that important. Keep finger and engraved soft ring safe and intact for other times, other situations, other environments, other company!

If you value that finger take the ring off when working. I don't see a problem having a new ring made using the existing ring, as long as you TAKE IT OFF WHILE WORKING. +1 on taking it off while working, several jobs I had to remove it or else. Local guy that worked for the phone company lost the finger because it got caught riped it off.

Ask your wife if she would prefer if: (a) you lost some digits or (b) you didn't wear your wedding ring at work, and you will know exactly where you stand.
I do not take my wedding ring off ever. BUT, when we were married 2 years I had mine slip off my finger and disappear into a lake while riding a jet ski. Gold was an astronomical $600 an ounce back in the day, and it took about a year and a half before we could buy another. I probably haven't had the replacement ring totally off my finger for more than a few times in the last 20 something years, but I would not wear it whenever it impacted my safety. My wife would be upset if I took a chance over a ring.

Mine comes off when I'm working with power tools. Every time. Period.

There's more than one way to lose a finger because of a ring.
A friend of mine slipped and fell hard. On the way down, his ring caught on something such as the head of a nail and stripped all the flesh off that finger, leaving only the bare bones intact.

A ring is a symbol of a vow. It's not the vow itself. If the vow is so weak that you have to wear something to prove it, then it's not much of a vow. If your wife can't understand safety and understand that you could suffer serious injury from the ring, then she needs to look deeper into your relationship.

Marty, please listen to what AJ300mag and the others are telling you about rings and working. I wore mine for the first 4 years I was married. I worked as an electrician in commercial and industrial environments. Till one day I was climbing down from a machine and slipped a little bit. My ring caught on a piece of the machine. I wound up hanging from my ring finger and luckily I was able to grab on with my right hand/arm before the ring skinned my finger down all the way. It only skinned it down to just over the knuckle. And I'm not talking about just roughing the skin up. I mean there was bone showing. Please do not wear your ring at work. The things you were taught/told about never taking it off a just noise by people who are not looking at the safety aspect of the serious injuries rings will do to you. Take it off when at work. Put it on when done. The ring is not keeping you faithful to your vows to your wife.

I worked as an electrician in commercial and industrial environments. I once read about a power co. lineman who didn't notice that his wedding ring had worn a small hole in his insulated gloves. He's now deceased. In retrospect, would his wife have insisted that he continue wearing it?

I haven't worn mine for years. In a lot of places I work, it's not allowed. When it is, I've smashed it, scratched it, and now, it's out of round so it bugs my finger when I do wear it.
It doesn't bug me not to wear it and it doesn't bug my wife.

http://s110.photobucket.com/albums/n116/rick300/wedding%20ring/Here's my work ring. I have a band like your's but I only wear it at home or out. I know two guys missing that finger and I saw a co-worker almost do the same. I love my wife but I like my fingers too. Hope this helps. Rick

All good advice Marty. I took my ring off after the wedding trip was over and told my wife that from now on I would wear it around my heart and if it ever fell off, my heart would break in a million pieces.
It's still on there holding everything together.

Marty I wouldn't wear it at work period!! Your right, a great way to get a finger crushed or worse cut off. Or equipment grabbing your finger and pulling your entire hand into machinery. I had a horseshoe nail go through my finger before I could wring it off one time that grabbed my ring too. I followed that hoof where ever it went until I got unhooked! that still hurts have not worn mine for years ;;wife wares it now
