After a 32 year absence, I have re-aquired an FN Mauser that my dad and I built in the mid 60's. It has the Timney Sportsman trigger and it's pull weight good with no creep. The overtravel is excessive. The Timney instructions say that, if adjusted too tight, it interferes with the bolt. On this one, I cannot seem to get less than 1/8" without causing some binding. What causes this, and can anything be done about it?

Would necessitate looking at it to see what is causing it.
