I just bought a Hunter and am pleased with it. Have yet to shoot it, though.

I have a few. About as good as it gets for a factory gun. My only criticism is the scope mounting system somewhat limits your options. I wish they would move to the arrangement they have on the A7. All mine are 308 or smaller. They are light guns so it might be a little bit of a handful in 300WM. If you buy one, please post up your observations. I'm considering one in 300 WSM but I don't like to take a beating from recoil.

Mine is a 30-06, accurate sweet rifle to shoot and not to heavy.

Specs say the 300 mag is a fraction under 7 lbs. I will use Talley bases and fixed rings if purchased.

Thanks for the feedback.

The Talley bases and rings work well. Just be aware that if your scope has a short tube you may have some problems with getting the scope in the correct position to match your eye relief.

Got one in .300 WSM. Bare gun weighs 6# 6.6 oz. With a Swarovski PH 3-12x50 and Conetrol mounts, it weighs 7# 12.2 oz.

Yes, I have considered that and think a call to Talley to check if front base extension is an option would be prudent...thanks. It will most likely wear a Swaro Z3 4/12/50...or a Conquest 3.5/10/50.

Talley does not make any type of extended front base but said my scope choices would fit fine. Medium height also works fine for 50MM bell.

You won't. I have the 85 Finnlight in 300 WSM. I have run full loads in 150, 165 & 180's & the recoil is no dfferent than any other cartridge running near 70 grains of powder.

The Sako 85 is as much gun as you can get out of a box without going custom. I really like mine and am glad I spent the money on it. It has trumped every other gun purchased to date except my 1886 45-70.

Sako 85 Finnlight, Edge stock, Swarovski 3-10x42, Talley bases and Q.D. rings weighs 7 lb 4 oz. It is a pleasure to shoot.

sweet rifle, should have bought the 7mm-8 I had my hands on at the Berreta Gallery in Dallas. Felt great and the "new" stock is MUCH MORE attractive and better feeling than the old one.

I agree with Reloader28 above, it will be the best $1500 you will spend on a rifle, without the year wait for a 4500.00 custom.

I have one in 30-06 and it is incredibly accurate with most any bullet shot in it. Not as nice looking as a gun with wood stock but as a hunter it can't be beat.

My girlfriend shoots one in a 25-06 and loves it. It's super accurate as well. I did change out the stock and put a McMillan Edge on it so it fits her perfect now.

My Stainless Synthetic Sako Model 85 is chambered in 375 H&H. It's the best rifle I have ever owned.

As an aside - the long action Model 85 is only a full THREE ounces more in weight - than the Finnlight is.

I really like the 1-pc Optilock Ringmounts. They are outstanding if you don't need an off-set mount.

Me too Sam, thinking the long action/dovetail and talley combo will take my longest tube...a Z3 Swaro 4/12/50. No offset with talleys on Sako. Gonna see if a spare VX III will cradle and eye relief before I start switching from zeroed rifles.
