Some of my best are by Lyman. Three of the herd are the 429421, 358429 & 358156. The first two have cast a few tons of bullets. The 358156 perhaps 200 pounds. They certainly work great. L-429421 L-358429 L-358156

Creeker, what do you shoot that 358156 in? Does it lead in your gun? How much does it weigh with your mix? I have a 6" 686 with a 2x Simmons on it that shoots about 1 1/2" at 5o yds with 158 Hornadys. I am thinking about one of Accurate Molds 4 cav, but I like the tried and true Lyman as well. Murf

Creeker,
May I ask, what is the overall cast bullet length on your 358429's ? I received a Ruger K77/357 for Christmas. Thinking of loading some of these bullets to about 1000 fps for plinking and target practice with the grand kids. Wondering if the bullet was short enough (max 0.8") to stabilize in a 1:16 twist at 1000 fps ?
New to casting. appreciate all helpful suggestions...

Not Creeker, but I have shot thousands of .358429 through lever action carbines. Either crimp over the front bearing band in Magnum cases, or in the crimp groove in 38 Specials. Try about 5 grains Unique with either case for about 1,000 fps. For a little more thump, load 11.5 grains for 1,400 fps. That latter load equals the old 32/40 rifle cartridge and will kill deer if pointed right.

You might want to check your last post.........
I don't think that you are advocating 11.5 grains of UNIQUE with the 358429.
11.5 grains with Alliant 2400 powder sounds correct.

The Keith bullet will stabilize at any normal .357/38 twist rate. The only length problems could involve the length of the bullet nose being too long for some actions to feed. 358429 was designed before the development of the 357 magnum, and when loaded in 357 mag cases results in an overall length that exceeds SAAMI specs. This is an issue in some "old style" revolvers, notably Colts Python, & S&W Model 27 & 28. I have heard a few complaints of the overall length being too long for a few lever-actions, but don't have any specific information about which ones. As far as bolt guns go, no clue.

Murf I have three, 4" M-19 S"&W, 6" M-28 S&W, & a 7 1/2" Ruger Bisley. The bullet is 'bout 164 from straight WW alloy. This bullet was one of Skeeter's favorites.

I'd like a Lyman 432421 so wheelweight bullets would fit my Rugers.

I know all about Veral. I have several of his molds from before his "vacation" at Club Fed.

That was quite a while ago. He does offer true Keith designs, in addition to his own. I'm doing my final figuring on an order I'll be placing this week.
