I wouldn'ta bought it but I know it must at least work as a single shot cuz the barrel looks worn out! And, the lever has a snazzy pre-opening feature that will speed up cycle times, which is a big extra at no extra charge. What model do you suppose the barrel is off of, a model 70?

I saw that about an hour ago and somehow knew you would be jumping on it. Don't ask me how I knew but have fun with it. Tom

Tom I've been wanting a .225/219 99 for a long time, since I decided the 99 was IT. I know this one looks like it's been rode hard and put away uncleaned, but what the heck, I got a toy to dink with. Do I need a 4 lb. or an 8 lb. hammer to fix that lever?

Don't know that I would mess with the lever. It appears the heel of the lever is already almost touching the wood. Tom

You never know, this could be a lot of fun! I sure worry about the safe queens, and don't even want to take them in and out of the safe for fear of a $200 ding, so I am going to have some serious fun with this gun. I needed a .22 centerfire Savage 99 rat that I can shoot till it melts. Gunna need brass donors or ammo and dies...

If it dont shoot I have a 303 barrel you could screw on it. Deal. I'll play with it first. How's 3100+ fps with a 56 grain bullet at only 38,000 PSI sound? Or a handload of 25 grains 3031, 50 grain bullet, 3350 fps? Sounds like an over-achiever to me. Lots of taper in the brass, could "improve" it, but I doubt the remaining barrel life warrants it. But, I'll load this moderately for medium and short range shooting and longer brass life.

Why not just go 38/55 or 375 while we're at it? You guys, I want a .22. Let's hope it's not a smooth bore yet.

Sounds an awful lot like a .22 HiPower. For that kind of money, why not take a flier? Could be fun. (I would take a rasp to that generic looking forend if it were mine.) If I had a couple hundred to throw away two days before Christmas, I would have glommed onto it myself.

Sounds an awful lot like a .22 HiPower. Actually sounds a lot like a 223, or a 22 HP without the funky .228 diameter barrel and for less $$$

Gunna need brass donors or ammo and dies 25-35 brass, 22 HP dies will work. You can even form 30-30 down to make cases.

If the bore is less than good, you could always rebore to .358 Zipper......nobody on your street is gonna have one of those. Scratch that..... .358 Rainbow ........with regard to the trajectory.

I like it! Cool caliber in an old school gun. Hopefully it'll be a shooter for ya. Decent price to boot.
