Using your hunting rifles and practical field positions, what kind of 3 shot groups can you regularly shoot at say 600yds?

I'm not so much interested in long range Big game hunting but do like to pop varmints and targets at extended range.

Thanks..James

I generally do not shoot 3 shot groups. I usually shoot 5 shot groups. With my rifles I average 5 shots at 500 yards from a bi-pod of 2.5"s or under. Usually at 100 yards it is one big ragged hole. However, keep in mind that some rifle/bullet combinations will shoot better at longer distances than.. lets say 100 yards. Usually long bullets need time to settle ( stop pitching or yawing ) Therefore your group at 100 yards may be 1" but at 200 yards it may be 1" as well..... just an example.

If your a varmint hunter you most likely shoot small caliber rifles.. 243 or smaller ( i imagine ). Without fast twist barrels and long bullets those calibers are generally limited to 400 yards.... however, I had a 22-250 with a 30" barrel that shot 69 gr sierras into an average of under 12" at 1000 yards.... I killed a PD at 963 yards with that rifle....

With off the shelf rifles and manufactured ammo.. if you shoot 1 MOA ( 1" at 100, 2"s at 200 and so on ) your doing quite well....

I also shoot five shoot groups. I get 1 "minute of prairie dog" groups at 600 yards.

Wy,

Now you tell me that my 22 is only good to 400 yards on woodchucks? How do I tell all those dead woodchucks out to 660 yards? GRIN

At 600 yards I am consistenly within a 4" circle with my 22 CHeetah MK 1, 52gr berger bullets. Some days I shake less and can do better. The rifle is more accurate then I can shoot it.

Don
