I was curious as to how many days other people get to hunt. over the last 3 years i have spent 20 days each year hunting over my dogs. to do that i have to save a couple of weeks of vacation and also use a fair amount of weekends during the season. the downside is that my spouse doesnt think much of it but the upside is that my dogs get a lot of experience and i get to enjoy a lot of nice days doing what i like to do most. but as i talk to a lot of other hunters i get the impression that most of them only go the first and second week of the season. which is fine it just means more birds for me. but i was just curious how much other people get out

I take the fall off every year.I work lots of o/t throughout the year and from mid September until the end of November. During that time I hunt every day that is fit to go and also most days that aren't. I hunt ptarmigan and grouse over my dogs and fit in some moose/caribou hunting when I can. I have a great fall but pay for it by not having much free time the rest of the year.
If it doesn't have fin, fur, feathers or go bang, I just ain't interested.

I tend to hunt just an hour or two a day, but at the very least 50 times per year, not counting big game. We start with ruffed and blue grouse on Sept. 1, and end with Chukar and Quail at the end of January. Usually, coming back from one of the farms, I'll kick out the dogs, and chase something around for an hour or so. Of course, it helps that fish farms tend to be located in some of the best bird hunting country you can imagine.
The dogs get neurotic if I don't work them three times a week. So do I...... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> Dutch.

I usually log about twenty days annually for pheasant. I get about the same number of waterfowl hunts. . .sometimes more. I only log about three to five days per year on deer, as I have a hard time hunting without my pups.

I try to waterfowl hunt about 35-50 days a season. It depends on the conditions and the bird populations. I will dove hunt 5-10, pheasant 10 unless we hit some other states, it will be more. Big game a few weeks spread out over several seasons and rabbit hunt when everything else is out of season or slows down. I hunt over the dogs as much as possible and with a freinds dogs too. I am kind of spoiled because my schedule is two days on and two days off. We work 12 hour days but if I want to get six off in a row, it only costs me two vacation days. Even when on nightshifts, I can sleep in the first day off and hunt the next easy. There has also been more then a few shifts where the local duck hunters saw my tighty whities in the parking lot, at the ponds, as I am changing from my uniform into waders and duck coat. Ryan

i hear you on that. for the last 4 years i have gotten off work. picked up a freind about 2 hours away and then took turns driving all night to start quail hunting 1200 miles later at about 9:30 in the morning. the best part is that in TX you can get your license over the phone so we call in and get them over the last hour and half that we are on the road. Last year the gal we talked to was pretty funny. She asked me when i wanted my license to be good for and i told her to start it that day.......she laughed and said "sir put the gun down".............i got a good laugh out of it but she went on to tell me that she often sold licenses to guys in thier deer stands

hey all, not much can compare, in the hunting world, to watching a dog work. my kennel has tri-colored beagles. i start running in october, take off november to let the deer hunters have the woods. then it's my turn rabbit time till feb. 14. i work full time for the virginia dept. of corrections, i work 12 hour days every other week, that's right work a week then off a work. i usually hunt 5 or 6 days the week i'm off, plus i take off for vacation the week of Christmas, so my 7 year old son can go more often. now that's the joy in life: my son and i and a pack of rabbit hounds. good hunting to all, R.D.
For HIS service,
R.D.

Last year I think I spent average 4 days a week afield from about the 1st of November to the first of March. Midnight shifts are great and being single helped too!
Boy I wish I were quail hunting right now!
