Per my name on this site, I have some questions.
Everyone seems to want a quick/easy way to remove stubborn copper/powder fouling in barrells.
So, has anyone tried rubbing/polishing (auto type) compound ?
How about these hand cleaners w/light abrasives(go-jo) ?
Seems like it might work, takes just about anything off hands, and it can't be that harmful, right ?
If so what are the effects, negative and positive ?
Are these even abrasive enough to remove the gunk ?
Are they so abrasive it could hurt the rifling ?
Is it a waste of time or am I on to something (prob not) ?
Thanks !!

I'm gonna say that either of the automotive types might be a little coarse, unless your barrel looks like a sewer pipe. I would use JB Bore Cleaner. Some guys use Flitz Metal Polish. I've foundthe best and easiest way to get rid of heavy copper fouling in to use one of the foam type bore cleaners. Wipe Out works great, and I think Outers has their own brand that supposed to work just as well

I've been using the foam cleaners for a while now and I think they are excellent. I only use them about every 75 to 100 rounds and use my old methods for every few shots.

Old methods=Hoppes, JB, Sweet's, elbow grease.

How long do you have to let the foaming cleaners sit in the bore? Do they harm blueing or any type of stock finish? billt.

Wipe Out says at least an hour on up to 24. Overnite works good on really fouled bores. Outers claims 15-30 minutes, don't know how well it works, I have some but haven't tried it out yet. Neither will harm the bluing, but can harm certain types of stock finish.
