It seems that the old school thinking is to reel with the right hand if you are right handed. I never understood that philosophy, as I reel left handed as well. Why would anyone want to switch hands just to reel???

I reel left handed with a spinning rod as well, so it just feels like the natural way to go.

I certainly don't need to be muscling a reel when I'm dealing with foot-long trout, so the reel is pretty much an afterthought, and just some place to wind up the line at the end of the day. I need rod control in my right hand a whole lot more than I need to be reeling.

Somebody else may tell me that I'm wrong, but this old hack is alone 99% of the time that I'm out on the stream, so I guess they won't be there to correct me anyway! laugh

dogwater: love your dog, looks like a good one.
I had one like that.

Back when I lived in Montana I got her from the animal shelter in Kalispell best dog I ever had. That dog loved to please.

I could never figure how such a prized hunting dog could end up at the shelter. She was good to me and my family.

Newest addition to the stable - and most modern centerfire I own by a very large margin.

That's a nice old Marlin. Caliber? 26"?

The rifle is an 1893 or Model 93 Marlin - depending on how you do the math. It weighs 7 lbs 1/4 oz. and has a 26" round barrel.

It was (or maybe still is)a .32 Winchester Special. It is in Oregon where is is undergoing plastic surgery to become a .38-55. I'm hoping it will be home soon so I can fit it with a tang sight and get it read for NRA lever action silhouette and antelope hunting this fall.

Bought one Marlin 1893 in Canada some years ago, was 26in barrel take down model, writen Marlin Safety on the receiver and caliber was 30-30. Too bad i sold it to a Marlin collector...

Here two pictures, no fence but some kind of post...

Mark;
I trust that this finds you and yours doing well.

While I did post a photo of this particular "money pit" project 98 in .270 somewhere earlier in this fine thread, hopefully it's OK that I add another after the most recent additions complete with a paint job.

I'm not certain I really like the OD base coat and may go back to flat brown again - but like as not I'll give it a season or two to rub some of the Krylon Fusion off first. wink

Thanks to all the members of our 'Fire who've participated in this fine thread. I often come back to see who has put up photos and enjoy them all.

All the best to you and your family in 2012 Mark.
