Well, I was meaning that Texans as a whole favors gun rights... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />

Even Ann Richards, as poor a leader as she was, and a Democrat, liked hunting & gun owners rights.

The woman in question is also a Republican, don't forget....I don't see her doing anything to upset gun owners, but that is just my opinion.

By the way, LBJ was a hunter as well. My grandfather grew up hunting with him.

The intent of my comment about Harriet Miers and Laura Bush being at SMU at the same time was speculating that George Bush probably knows quite a bit about Ms. Miers, possibly even from her college days via Mrs. Bush's knowledge, and he probably knows her very well.

I've learned since posting yesterday that Ms. Miers has been a very frequent guest at Camp David (moreso than a lot of other staff members), supposedly is somewhat close to Laura Bush, and seems to have worked very closely with the President for several years. So when W says he knows her heart, I tend to believe he probably does.

I tend to think somebody the President has worked closely with for years would be less likely to do a Souter on him than an unknown who he didn't know very well, and that's reassuring to me.

There could also be speculation that Ms. Miers is Laura Bush's choice for SCOTUS, and I thought about that, but I think while Laura Bush might be very supportive of the choice, it was probably W's choice.

Intelligent lay-persons could interpret the Constitutional intent far better than ANY Shyster can

With regard to the gay rights issue, I notice that Ms. Miers is not married. Has she ever been? If not, I suspect that she may have a whole nother view on gay rights if you know what I mean.

And .... I've read that she has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to her church.

One more "Atta' boy!" from me, Idajo. Folks forget this stuff.

W's been "misunderestimated" all his political career. I just hope and pray he's giving us conservatives what I think he thinks he's giving us. SCOTUS justices are rather notorious for changing directions once on the bench there, and since that darn crystal ball repairman closed his shop, not one of us knows how this is going to work out if she takes a seat at the big 9-man bench.

And THAT's the helluv all this nomination business. I just wish Bush could re-vamp the composition of those dang bureacracies! Now THAT could be BIG! Maybe even bigger than the High Court?
