Yeah, just a plainer version, still a lot nicer action than Remington's ADL SPS with the rough finish.

Yup, the 78 actions I have are smoother working than what Remington produces now.

Saw a NIB 78 30-06 a couple months ago... Kicking self for not buying... Four bills only.

I built a faux Ti with one a few years back. Not only is the action better than newer stuff, but the trigger is mucho better too.

Thanks guys, I have a chance at one, fairly reasonable. Was gonna use it for a build but wanted to make sure it would work.

Had one of those years ago in 30-06 i wish i never sold it.It was the same action and barrel it just wasn't polished, kinda like a matte finish. The stock was an ADL hardwood instead of walnut.I believe it was only offered in 2 calibers 30-06 & 270.I paid $259 for the gun.And yes i also believe it was nicer than my SPS 700 that i currently own!

I've had the Sportsman 78 in 243 and 30-06, Good rifles. Just a plain birch stocked ADL 700.
