shooting his handloads. If there was ever any question on how a 80gr TSX from a 243AI would work on a whitetail the question was answered for me today. I dropped my nephew off on the road to one of my favorite stands. Then I went and got settled in within the hour I heard a shot in his direction. A smart old buck decided to walk across the road leading into the stand about 190 yards from the stand. My nephew made a great shot, in right behind the last rib out through the opposite shoulder. The kid has passed a bunch of two year old deer waiting on a good mature deer. He told me a little while ago that it was worth the wait. Moses a deer that has been on our hit list for at least 4 years expired within forty yards of the spot where he was shot. He is not a monster buck, but he sure is mature. The kid and his deer The kid showing off the rifle he built.

Great story! All the elements are there: he built an accurate rifle, had the patience to wait for the buck he wanted and shot with ammo that he had loaded himself. Give him a pat on the back for me!

That's a proud boy! And the TSX's kill when fired from a 6mm/250 as well.

Congrats to him and what an accomplishment to build his own gun and load his own ammo for it.

Thanks guys I will pass along the congrats. I am very proud of the boy. His maturity level is well above his true age most of the time. The kid has had a hard time, his parents are not the best role models. I hope that being around my mom my wife and myself has been a positive in his life. I think we have him on the right path. He is making good grades and staying out of trouble. I was honored to share the moment when he laid hands on that first buck. To say that the kid was shook up was an understatement. His experiencing that kind of adrenalin dump leads me to think he is going to be chasing those big bucks for a long time.
