Hello the Camp!
I was wondering if anyone else has given this a try? It looks like Goex will have it out pretty soon according to Rdnck. I got a couple of cans of it at Raton & like it- seems to be between the old Goex & Swiss in density & velocity. The small test that I did @ 1000 yds. showed a slightly lower SD & was a tighter group than 1-1/2 Swiss.
Thanks for the invite to the fire Greg! .....Dennis

Congrats on yer fine competitve shooting, man. Hope you can get down this way and gather up, this winter.

I need to get onto some Goex , myself. JS has got some pretty good data, from a recent lot of FFg....I've got a lb., but too damn busy to wring it out....once I get around to it, and find out that it's better'n sliced bread....it'll probly be gone, sold out.

Look's like that magic bullet has got a growing list of believers, will it work with conventional lube?

Greg- thanks,
Yeah, that NASA II bullet seems to work pretty well, (that's what I used in the tryouts). However, I think that one of it's biggest advantages is being able to get 80 grs. or so of powder behind it in a .47-70 for long range. For Silhouette distances, the sub Moa 5200 bullet that I use is Bernie's Silhouette bullet.
The other advantage that I've found with the NASA is that wide mono-groove seems to lube better- never fouled out with it blow tubing. I did wipe at Raton though with my "Special" Home Depot glow in the dark- very expensive ($2.50) rifiling, cleaner-lubricator!
I either pan lube or dip the base in melted lube ( I have a bunch of differen't lubes that I have tried- they all work pretty well- currently it is a mix of all of them: SPG, White Lightening, Black Magic, Eagle Lube & my own BW, Crisco, olive oil & Lube Guard concoction- go figure?). I run the bullets (W/W) though a Lee sizer honed out to .4595" to clean them up.
I'd give this new stuff a try when it gets out- about 40 fps slower than equal wt. of swiss(1260-1300), but more consistent MV. Sounds like it will be priced between current Goex & Swiss. Kenny W. reported on it somewhat in 1F- I think that is what he may have shot in Raton. .....Make smoke, Dennis

Idahjo,
Don't misunderstand- like I said, that was one small test at 1000! Swiss is GOOD powder- my most accurate 200 yd. load is 65 grs. of 2f dehind that silhouette bullet. I also shoot a lot of Swiss 1-1/2 at 8-9-1000! Then again, I shoot a lot of Goex Cart. at gong matches (like the Quigley, Golden Spike etc.). I'm just saying that this new stuff may be worth a close look! I can think of a couple dozen shooters that I would like to see give it a try& see what they think of it.
Don't wory about your new case of Swiss- I bet you will shoot it al up within 6 months, or find like I do that you may like different loads for different matches & reserve a few cans of that lot for that particular type of shooting. ........Dennis

I have been shooting some New Process Fg for about a year now like the hell out of it good MV and very consistant off the clocks.

Dennis is right this is the stuff I used at Raton and also at The Sagebrush match in Alliance Neb. I also was using it at my match in the Bench Rest match. Stuff is accurate and in my opinion good powder.

Dennis, what the heck is a "Special" Home Depot glow in the dark- very expensive ($2.50) rifiling, cleaner-lubricator!"

Believe me, I'm all ears.

Greg,
With all the discussion of Bore Dogs/Pigs, I couldn't help but throw that in. When I think that conditions warrant it, I wipe between shots (as in the longer ranges at Raton this year when it warmed up). My solution is a Home Depot fiberglass rod found in their Mail Box area (comes in orange, yellow & white). They have a fairly thick plastic coating so the fiberglass won't wear on your barrel. I epoxy a .32 case on the end that I drill out & tap for a .45 nylon brush. I then wipe with a single patch (Dave Mauer's round patches) soaked (then squeezed out til just damp) in a 10:1 water/soulable cutting oil (NAPA). I find that if I use straight water, there is no lube in the barrel and I'll pick up a little leading.
Like you, I have an aversion to using anti-freeze, though I'm sure that it does pretty much the same thing (leaves a light coating of lube in the barrel).
Also those rods have a great advantage when you are shooting in matches in pitch dark as they glow in the dark! :-)

Well, I've got a piece of scrap walnut, and every now and than, when I walk by it , I drizzle a drop or two of 50/50 Prestone / H20 on it.

It's not doing the wood a bit of good, and once it softens further, will see what's needed to remediate the damage.
Solvent, whiting, and resin impregnation will probably be the ticket.
Idajo has made up an interesting concoction, the formula for which I have lost.....................sounded like a good one.
I'm really liking the '74 side hammer action for ' most likely to succeed" in pouring soapy, chemical blends through. Some of the other types may require drain holes, or scavenging pumps.

Looked for one of the coated rods at Home depot today... all they had was a white fiberglass rod with a large blue reflector on top <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Idahjo,
Yeah, that white one I used for my wife's .40-65 (smaller dia.)- I cut the reflector off, but left enough plastic to make a little knob on the end. On the other end I drilled a hole just big enough to epoxy in the threaded end of a .40 nylon brush- works good. The blaze orange & yellow are slightly larger dia. & stiffer. That is the reason that I like them better than the Derlin rods (they are a little stiffer- usually a good thing! :>), but still flexible enough to get by the Soule sight.
I'll bet that they are just temporairly out, as I've seen them at several Home Depot's- So what is your concotion that Greg was refering to?? Incidently, that NAPA soluable cutting oil (part#765-1526), I also use to lube my patches for my muzzle loaders- it does not show having any petroleum distalites in it ......Dennis
