Sure, it's a joke until you need to pole vault a moat - then we'll see who has the last laugh...

Nice gun, those long barrels aren't my cup of tea but I can still appreciate them and know they are useful.

I found it at a gunshow. It was cheap and I bought it with the thought of putting a scope on it, or having the barrel shortened. It had a rubber grip on it but I took care of that.

Don't you already have a short-barreled .44 Mag? It looks pretty good that way. I'm not a huge fan of Buntline types, but it looks good. How much? Did you have to buy the grips or did you have some on hand?

With a bit of horse trading to get the grips, I have about $400.00 in it. I have a 7.5" blued old model SBH, and a 4 5/8ths" .44 Special Flattop. Getting the barrel cut and a new front sight turned out to be a lot more expensive than I thought. Ruger won't install a shorter barrel which would have been the cheapest way to go. Putting a scope on it the way I want would probably cost me $500.00 so I may just shoot it as is.

You should keep it the way it is. With the right loads I bet that thing is a real tackdriver.

Scoping it shouldn't be too expensive. I had a TSOB mount (rings included) installed on my 7.5" SBH for under $150 by SSK Industries (JD Jones)

I wouldn't cut the barrel back tho, especially since you have a 7 1/2" and a 4 5/8"

But then there's the $350.00 for the scope...

Buy a used Leupold 2x or 4x. The two I have bought in the past were $125 each.

That's a nice piece. I hunted with a 10.5-inch SBH a couple of years ago and it proved extremely accurate.

I agree. With that looooong sight radius and a good rest, you should be able to shoot the antennas off flies at 100 yds!

Yes indeed. smile I've got the blued version, and while I can't see fly antennae that far, I'm sure the SBH would be up to the challenge. With a sight radius only a half foot short of a carbine, its almost like cheating. Cutting the barrel would be regrettable.

I have owned three of them in the past 40 years and I regret selling them. They were all accurate and fun to shoot. Killed many a deer with them. I think them to be great huntin revolvers and actually eaiser to shoot off hand than the T/C Contenders that I am so fond of.
