A friend of mine told me that Colorado culled elk at one time, when they became way over populated in an area.

Never heard that before - sounds odd?

Anyone else ever heard that?

Rocky Mountain National Park. It may still be ongoing, I'd have to check.

Lots of times on small scale. Where they have invaded agriculture mostly. Never on a large scale.

Give us a longer season. We'll take care of it.

Is that something DOW does in-house, or do they just issue more landowner tags?

There have been damage control hunts in the SLV by lottery and while on those hunts I learned of DOW in-house hunts.
I hadn't considered the landowner tag thing until you mentioned it.

Special damage tags can be issued to a landowner potentially. As for the elk cull in RMNP, the shooters are National Park Volunteers, not actual employees. Believe it or not, those guys got the job by responding to a newspaper ad that the park service put out.

Yup, tried that!

I was only about 2 minutes to late, and behind the 200 to many that already responded.

It would be a lot of fun if that job was awarded by a fitness/shooting competition!

We have elk seasons in June and July to get elk out of San Luis Valley ranchers fields. No other state does that. Plus we have damge list you can get on to hunt elk in that same areas first come first served on the list. Check with Alamosa DOW.
