I still think it would be worth a look.

Yeah, it might be. BUT I hate giving coin to a NYC dwelling Bloomberg writer who's NOT a gun supporter. That money could go to Rifle/Handloader instead. smile

just buying it for the history of Glock...not for the author's opinion on Mas or CCH.

don't like them or own one, but isn't that your shower gun?

it is a fact that more cops carry Glocks than anything else, I assume that's what they mean. that is the interesting thing I'd like to read about....how did some Austrian mechanic manage to take the US LEO market by storm with a plastic gun?

If his shower gun was a Glock, he wouldn't have needed to vacuum seal it in plastic.

Glocks marketing strategy was pure genius; Ill never criticize them on that.

The fact it's a damn good gun is also a factor.

Nobody has "given" me one yet.
But the fact that they eat, shoot, strip, function, perform alot better than some I have worth twice as much kinda makes me sick sometimes. Do wish it was a 'merican that contrived the whole deal, however.

At the time that I worked in and co-managed a small gunshop in Upstate, SC about 1986 or so, the owner gained the upstate dealership for Glock. At this time, the Glock could not be sold in SC, due to the melting point law, and everybody thought the guy was crazy to get a dealership to a gun he could not sell. A year later, the SCHP adopted them, and suddelnly, everyone wanted one. The guy who was the head of US Glockl sales at the time drove from Atlanta to a range on the SC border and met with our shop, and the Gwd. County Sherriff and local Police Chief. He had dragged a Glock on I-85 behind his 'Vette! He started things off by shooting that one. Yeah, it looked like Hell, but it worked. then, he got 2 coolers out, one filled with water, the other held filled with sand, and he fished out a Glock, and proceeded to fish out 2 loaded mags, and blasted away. Each ejected mag wnet into the sand, followed by the gun. the he fished out the mags, loaded them, and blasted away again. Pretty impressive!

Before he came up to demonstrate to the Gwd. City about a month later (they were then carrying S&W 38 Spcl revolvers), he sent 2 Smiths. 2 1911's and I think it was either a P85 or a Beretta 96, can't remember which, and lots of ammo for them to shoot and try. When they got to the range, he let them shoot all of them, then had those same officers break the guns down for cleaning. They had also passed amongst the department these guns and had random officers come out for this test. All agreed that the Glock was superior in every way, and all stated that if a vote were taken, they would choose Glock. The City went to the then-new Glock 22 in 40 S&W. The county at the time had a policy that you could carry whatever you could qualify with, period. We had a guy carrying an H&K P7, a guy carrying a Sig P-210 imported from Canada, and one guy carrying a 6-inch Dan Wesson .357 stuck cross wise in an old belt, no spare ammo.

Those that may remember history will remember that the first recorded death using the 40 S&W cartridge in the line of duty happened in greenwood City a few months after the officers received their firearms, had a known drug dealer try yo use his car to kill several undercover officers. As he was about to drive over on of the officers, another shot THRU the car door and killed the guy. The County quietly sent to Glock the next month.

Glock's shrewed marketing and happen-chance worked to thier advantage, and these days, I am not sure if there is any department in upstate SC that does not carry them, and for good reason.

Well if there is any gun on earth that a poorly trained cop (or his 3yo kid at home, or the felon that just disarmed him) can make go boom every time...it's the glock.

I wonder how much the ND rates went up in the departments you mentioned after transitioning to the Glock.

When DC metro switched to Glock their ND rate went up almost 700% the first year.

Poorly trained people don't figure in my choice of a self-defense pistol.

We won't let you down. Just keep acting like they're the only handgun that actually works...
