I knew no one would believe that group so that's why I had the witnesses sign it. I shoot out the window because I have too. Almost all my shooting is done from that window. So far an Elk and a couple of deer have met there ultimate bang/flops from there. I am paralysed from the chest down and only have the use of my right arm. I use a Dog Gone Good window bag with a Bull bag sideways across the top of that. I then use the power window to get the elevation and rest my elbow on the tilt wheel. On smaller calibers I can just let it sit there and free recoil but on 7 mag and 300 Wby I have to hang onto them a bit or I'm risking a magnum brow. I do all my own trigger work and all my guns break under 2 pounds.

That's why I am so jazzed with the groups out of the 300Wby. It's much harder to shoot well meaning that sucker really jumps around. I have to shoot straight as I'm unable to do much tracking in a wheelchair. I also need to be able to reach them where they stand as getting closer usually is not an option for me.

Oh yeah. Those holes along the edge are shot in at the end so I can put them in the book. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />

In my personal experience:

Tikka (tie)
Steyr Mannlicher (tie with Tikka)
Remington
Springfield
Savage (the only one I have doesn't stand up to my others)

As for the rifles I have right now, for accuracy out of the box, with maybe a slight adjustment to the trigger, it would have to be: #1 Savage, #2 Tikka, T-3, #3 Weatherby Vanguard. Amazing, three of my least expensive are definitely my most accurate "out of the box" rifles.

2. Savage
3. Remington 700, Winchester M 70, Howa/Weatherby Vanguard in a dead heat

Good Shooting,

It wont be popular here. Id say the Browning A bolt with the boss.If you can stand the appearance of the boss.

Popular or not, you are spot on about the Boss A-Bolts. I have three - two one holers (the 300 Mag less ragged than the 243) and a 223 which will shoot them touching after a bunch of rounds down the pipe. All with factory ammo.

For me, it's not the appearance as much as the noise, but I just wear my hearing protection and enjoy them.

My dad has a Savage 243 which is almost as accurate as my Brownings, and I have a new stainless Tikka T3 270 Win which I got a deal on I couldn't pass up which I hope (and expect) will shoot. I'll take the Tikka when I am with my friends and hunt with the Brownings when alone.

I'm also an "A" bolt fan, my stainless stalker w/boss in 300 win mag is a ragged hole gun for years now. I also have a Tikka whitetail in 7mm-08 that does as well, and a Browning BAR in 308 (pre boss) that is outstanding.
I have been buying and collecting firearms for about 30 years now, and asked this question awhile back to a friend in the gun store business (the largest firearms retailer in my area), his response was they (maker's) all put out accurate products, but Weatherby's and Ruger's were sent back the most for accuracy issues, which were corrected by the maker. That has been a couple years ago, I don't know if this still is the case. The afore mentioned friend has sold me more Remington's and Browning's than I hope my wife ever finds out about.

Just curious! Rank order the top three companies which manufacture the most accurate rifles right out of the box. I love cloverleafs. What has been your experience?
Well, I can only speak for rifles that I have, but the top has to go to my Styer SSG in .308, which gets sub .5 MOA with factory loads
[Linked Image]
and Second goes to my 1961 Sako in .243 Winchester, which is sub MOA with 100 grain factory loads.

My Winchester Stealth does pretty good. Attached is a 3-shot 100 yard group.

I would say that you are getting acceptable accuracy with it.

I don't always venture out into the sub-freezing darkness, but when I do, it is deer hunting season, and I carry a Remington. Stay hungry my friends.

For a factory rifle, it is hard to outshoot a Remington 700--not that they can't make a dud every now and then. Do a little tweaking, and a 700 can still run with the custom actioned rigs in accuracy competitions. In tactical and sniper use, the 700-actioned rifles still get the nod by a wide margin over anything else.

Having said that, the brand of action--especially in a hunting rifle--is near the bottom of the list in what constitutes an accurate rifle. Bedding, stock, barrel are all much more important than the brand of action.

I recently bought an almost new 700 ADL in 223 Rem. It shoots under a 1/2" with Black Hills factory reloads. This is so common of a level of accuracy it doesn;t even raise eyebrows anymore. I bedded it in a LVSF stock and it shot a tad better.

My first 416 Rem was built on a 700 with a 25" #6 contour barrel. My current 416 Rem is built on a CZ 550 Safari action and has a 24", #5.5 contour barrel. The Rem was more accurate and less fussy.

My first 1000 yd rifle was a 700 Long action that had been trued. It had a Krieger LV contour barrel and a McMillan HV stock. It was nothing special. It has shot several 5" groups at 1000 yds, a best of 4.25", and twice in the 7 matches I shot with it I took home small group honors against full custom rifles.

I may build me an Arizona deer rifle. I'd like to use a custom barrel and trur the action. However, due to funding limitations, I'll start with a 700 SPS in 270 WSM. I'll bed it in a decent stock, ideally a McMillan Light Fill stock. I will probably do some "home brew" accurizing. IE, true the face of the receiver and barrel shoulder, lap the lugs, etc.

I expect it to be a .5 to .6 rifle............................

Because people complain about the loud CRACK that comes from the Browning due to that thing on the end of the barrel.

It is kind of hard to say, I have a sako in 280 that will consistently shoot .25 groups at 100 yards and will shoot 1-1 1/2 groups at 300 yards if I am having a good shooting day. At the same time I just got rid of a sako in 308 that I could not get to shoot 1" groups consistently. This was a 1995 rifle that did not have a free floated barrel. I also have a Browning stainless stalker, in 7m08, w/o boss that I have shot .144 groups (after deducting bullet diameter). I am not a great shooter. So I have to find rifles that are to allow me to post a great group with my reloads.
