I've been offered a M24 and an 87 B for short money. I haven't seen them yet but have a little info. The o/u doesn't have an s/n so it was made pre 1968. It is a 24 S the base model. The gun is stamped M24 S-E, is E the date code? Don't have much info on the 87 .

The model 24 S started in 1964 and all it meant was that to open the action the release was on the "Side" of the frame instead of behind the top tang like the regular 24's.
Not sure what the E stands for but it wasn't a date code.
That gun was made between 1964 and 1968.

The 24 S-E's that I own have the date code stamped on the side of the shotgun barrel just forward of the frame. I need a magnifying glass to read them.
