This afternoon we sorted up yearlings that are going to town next week. It was about 40F outside and trying to rain a little. Pretty nice day.

Last year when we did the same job(morning of Feb 1) it was -30F(-50 w/windchill). Luckily it did warm up a few days later so we were able to ship.

Oh yeah, life is 10x easier this Winter, for us and the animals.

My dad said today was a walk on the beach compared to this time last year.

Of course it's not even February yet, I better just shut up....grin

so, the question is begged, is global warming necessarily a bad thing?

i do not know. but when one is paying a ton of money for propane expenses, less cold weather results in less propane gas bills. when budgets are tight, global warming is sometimes seen as a positive thing.

We actually bought some more alfalfa but yeah, there should be plenty of the grass hay.

What we do have is a straw surplus. About 400 ton(some leftover from last Winter), better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

If anyone wants any 2 year old round bales of straw come take as much as you want.

No chit!

You should see the feedlot piles, a really big manure spreader would be nice.

It seems like the big problem with 'global warming' is that when it gets warm somewhere, somewhere else has to pay. We had a very cool summer, and lately, we've had two or three days of plus side of zero since before Christmas, hardly a warming trend. As a bonus, we also had some solid sub-zero, ice-making days in November. It's winter here. We're good. The other day it was -18 F at 8 AM, by noon it had 'warmed down' to -26 before climbing back to -18 in the evening. Today it finally got 'up' to -22.9 at 4 PM. Thankfully there hasn't been much wind so we've kept things mostly in the -40 something WC range. Enjoy your global warming. grin

seems the polar bears got through the last couple of warm spells just fine.....my ancestors were farming in Greenland the last time it warmed up and the bears made it through it just fine.....

Them trees look kinda wore out. Must have a little wind once in a while.
