hay, yall, just got a savage 64 and it leaves something to be desired (a 10/22) as it jams constantly although it seems to be the mag, not the rifle. accuracy is good. anyway i was just wandering what would be a reasonable real-world price for a used 10/22 in fair and operational condition? i know you can replace every part on the rifle so minor replacements are not a problem. plus would it be fair to trade this near mint 64 for the above kind of 10/22 on both ends? ps. i'm going to get a new mag from the factory and try it, if it works, i'll keep it, but if it's not 98% reliable or better i can't trust it in the field. oh, and if someone in my area is interested, i'll trade it for a fair 10/22 in a heartbeat. thanks for reading my pointless yammering. hold into the wind, piero

Yea a "cheap" 10/22 is not that easy around here either. In fact folks will pay more for an older version. Get a new mag for the Savage, magazines are the normal feeding issue for many 22's including the 10/22. A new mag will be alot cheaper.

One of my son's friends had a 10/22 that was beaten to death. The rear sight was broken off and the stock was battered. I bought it for $100 about two years ago. I only wanted the action for a target build. The action was perfect, so I added an Alumalight barrel and a Hogue Overmolded stock.
Good Ruger 10/22s are really hard to find under $175 around here. Watch for sales on new ones. Recently I have seen the basic carbine for $189 before taxes and call.

A guy at work has been putting WTB adds in the local Thrifty Nickle paper and has bought about a dozen of them for under $100.

Used to be every pawnshop had 3 or 4 Ruger 10/22s for sale, not anymore though. Academy sells the basic 10/22 for $198.

Around here I always see used 10/22's for sale. If it was used very hard and put away wet then they sell for $100 or less. For $150 it should be in excellent condition. I love 22LR and the 10/22 is a great rimfire rifle. Ruger has been making it for over 40 years and there are a lot of them out there. Had $10,000 worth of fun out of mine.

Around here used 10/22's go for not much if any less than a new 10/22. Beat to heck = $150, everything else between $150 and $200, sometimes up to $225. I saw 2 at the DSM gunshow this last weekend and both were priced at $225 in OK shape. Nothing special mind you. Heck, the Walmart 10 miles away has em for $200 still but it doesn't stop the dealers from asking high. Someone must be stupid enough to buy em at that price.
To the OP, if your area is like mine just bite the bullet nad buy new. They're worth it.

Late last year, I was lucky getting a stainless 10/22 for my son at a pawn shop. It was like new, just needed cleaned, for $100. Keep looking!

thanks, ya'll,i'm gonna try a new mag and see but if that's not i, i'll have a shiny new crowbar. win-win, right? oh, and accuracy is good for a brand new rifle. iv'e put about 150-200 rounds through it and with the remmy golden stuff it's getting 2" at 50yds so fingers crossed. funny thing is if i would have waited two days i could have gotten a 795 which has cheaper mags and a better rep. will try to post pics asap but still looking for my sd card...
well, wish me luck guys, still dealing with my last china mart purchase....

Just my opinion, but you might want to try a couple different brands of ammo. I have a Colt/Umarex M16 that won't shoot, feed, or eject remington golden bullets. It shoots CCI, Federal and Winchester all day with about a 1 to 3% failure to clear the ejection port, but always feeds and fires.

well, bart i've tried winchester super-x, rem subsonic, and rem golden bullet with the same issue. they all feed just fine when there are only six in the mag but all jam every time when there's more.

I've never seen a used 10/22 that rough! But I do see see used Ruger 10/22's every time I attend Seattle gun shows, $175-200 is average for what i've seen them sell for. $150 would begin to be a nice find for a 10/22 in new-like or minty condition. My last show I found a walnut stocked eighties vintage 10/22, for $185. I bought it for the action/receiver. Expect to get $40 when I sell the barrel, band, and stock to a fellow from another board - further reducing my cost!
