I still have 2122 shots down the tube. Haven't had to shoot it in a while because there are a pile of deer rifles to rotate including 2 more .264s. I am thinking about using it on coyotes this year and if it gets to the point where it won't shoot better than .75" I will retire it. I may have to do depredation shoots again and if so I will use it.

I will send it to Mule Deer and let him bore scope it or cut it in half for that matter so we can all see first hand what a well used .264 barrel looks like. You know they are only supposed to last for 300 shots............ What say ye gentlemen?

It's your pipe, do as you please! If you didn't let it get too hot, ever, and kept it reasonably clean, I don't know why it wouldn't last long enough to keep a "normal" person happy.

Lots of good rifles won't shoot .75", new, I think you oughta keep it running until it won't do better than 1.5". It would still kill any deer that need killin', even past that point.

It's your pipe, though.

I'm thinkin'
Shoot it until you can't stand the groups your getting,
and then cut an inch or two off the muzzle and see what that does.
I did it with a 7.7 Jap sporter given to me by an old uncle.
Trimmed it down and the groups tightened right back up.

I did shoot out some M-1 bores, but you can't trim them back.

The purpose of this rifle requires it to shoot .75 or better to keep me from picking up another rifle. Most of its kills are on the wrong side of 400 yards. Boys it is a dirty job that around here has to be done. reflex264

Dirty job? What are you talkin' about? That picture right there is taken right in the SE corner of Heaven. I could sit there many hours quite content with a Coke Zero and a couple boxes of ammo. grin

I would like to see how it looks on the inside. I bet you could talk one of the campfire 'smiths into milling half of it off lengthwise where we could all oooh and aaaah over the erosion or lack thereof.

My typical loads for crop sniping are 120 ballistic tips at anywhere from 3150 to 3400 depending on temperature. If it is below 80F I usualy launch them around 3300fps. There again, if it opens up past .75 it won't be dependable for the longer shots and I have more rifles I can use. reflex264

Don't say that out loud, I'd hate for all the deer I've shot with a .270 to haunt me, wanting their bodies and headgear back.
