Schoolcraft,

As you've noticed, there are fine folks here and a few that sometimes color these forums as having a "tough crowd." Also as you noted, it is best to just ignore these folks, either figuratively or literally.

Have a great day!

The 2.5x8 is my all-time favorite scope.

Since the "ideal" and "most popular" NULA is the Model 20 in .284, that should be what you are dreaming about, lol. Then, pick the barrel length and scope you want to end up with the weight you prefer as a balance bwtween easy to climb the mountain with, and "liveliness" while shooting it. As a pretty earnest "loony" I chose a 28" barrel, which gives the 154 Hornady (sectional density and BC about like the 180 gr in .30) 3100 fps. The gun, with a heavy SS barrel as chosen by Melvin, weighs about 7.6 lb with scope. Overall, it is .25 lb lighter than my 22" featherweight Model 70 while giving me 250 fps+ with a 150/154 gr. bullet. Now I hope you have more to worry about and consider smile

Run some numbers on an '06 with a 150 TTSX at 3,000+ fps. You might be surprised at just how well that combo performs out to 600+ yards.
