Then, pick the barrel length and scope you want to end up with the weight you prefer as a balance bwtween easy to climb the mountain with, and "liveliness" while shooting it. As a pretty earnest "loony" I chose a 28" barrel, which gives the 154 Hornady (sectional density and BC about like the 180 gr in .30) 3100 fps. The gun, with a heavy SS barrel as chosen by Melvin, weighs about 7.6 lb with scope. Overall, it is .25 lb lighter than my 22" featherweight Model 70 while giving me 250 fps+ with a 150/154 gr. bullet. Now I hope you have more to worry about and consider
