My magazine box doesn't have feed lips and with every run of the bolt on an empty magazine the bolt scrapes the follower. Do I have the wrong follower for a mag box that doesn't have feed lips or is this something that just happens with the wsm chamberings in a model 70.

Sounds kind of strange as my FN made (older newhaven classic) 300 wsm feeds like a hot knife through butter and my 30-06 extreme weather is the same way. Sorry I don't have any help to offer. When you say "scrapes", what do you mean exactly? May even have too much spring tension but if it feeds properly I don't think I'd worry about it.....

It feeds really well it but it is really starting to look like crap. I believe they got rid of the feed lips on the mag box so it would hold three in the mag and one in the chamber. The problem is that the follower pushes up to the. Ottom of the receiver and the bolt strikes it every time it is worked when the mag is empty. It seems like they could make a follower that would have the spacer built into the sides so the bolt could pass without contact.

Welcome to the world of Winchester. I wish I had an extreme weather 300 wsm to compare it to your rifle's follower. I do have a fn made (FN PBR XP) 300 wsm that feeds great and doesn't hang up on the follower. I can't see them changing a design that worked great before but you know what they did to the old trigger system so I may be wrong blush. Maybe post something in the gusmithing forum here, redneck may have ran into this problem with these rifles but don't get him started on the MOA trigger or you may not hear the end of it.....

Here's a pic of my fn pbr xp 300 wsm follower. I checked my 30-06 extreme weather also and the bolt doesn't make contact with the follower on either rifle. Sounds like yours is not right. Yours should look similar to the following:
