Proper eye placement would be more important to me than anything else.A two pound S&B on that light weight rifle would be horrible for me but I wouldn't change scopes to save two ounces.

What you need to do,since you can't shorten your neck,is to get to a large store where you can try different mounts and scopes. You might want to go with a different brand that has less eye relief than Leupold.

I would start with Talley light weight mounts in low.Lightly mount a scope choice. Then close your eyes and shoulder your rifle. When you open your eyes you shouldn't have to adjust your head to see through the scope.

I would base my choice on a combination that would fit me the best.Personally I like small objective scopes because with anything larger than 36mm I have a chin weld rather than a cheek weld unless the rifle has a high cheek piece.

One of my first choices on that rifle would be a VX3 1.75-6X32 followed by a VX3 2.5-8X36.Most of the time I need the scope closer, short fat neck, thus the slightly longer tube for my first choice.

Just call Melvin and ask him. After all Melvins the one that's been shooting your rifle for you,he ought to at least pick the scope also.

Bauer,

Is your life so lonely and miserable that you have nothing better to do than pick random posts and talk chit about them?

Your doctor can talk to you about the amazing advances in depression meds and how they can make someone, even someone like you, a happy person.

I'll be praying for ya' brother....

Either a Leupold 3-9 or Leupold 2.5-8

Really, put it to bed!!

Can't miss with either choice, IMO. I have a 3.5-10 on my 7mm-08 and a 2.5-8 on my 300 WSM and 209ML. In the heat of the moment, it really wouldn't matter a bit to me. 95% of the deer I've killed have been killed with a 2-7 Leupold. Never had a problem with getting on 'em and could use one till my time is up.

The 6x42mm will be far enough from your eye so you will be very safe. wink
I just mounted one on my M70 and it has a bit longer action than your rifle and the eye relief is out standing.

The 6x36mm would be a good choice IMHO also. They're lighter than the 6x42mm.

Well......it's done.
I swapped the 3.5-10x40 for the VX-3 2.5-8x36
Should fit the rifle nicely. Just couldn't make myself go with the fixed 6.

On to my next project...

I'm thinking maybe a .25-06....

Take a big jump off the cliff and try a 6x42 sometime. I guarantee you'll like it. Nothing as forgiving as the 6x42 as far as eye relief and cheek weld goes.

Take the gun rag out of the crapper, ditch the scales, throw the tape measure away, buy a laser range finder and go shoot the damned gun.

I think you will be amazed if you've never tried it smile
