I'd a got "educated" before I bought a Glock with a 357 Sig conversion barrel.

(Actually, Congratulations! You'll enjoy the best of both worlds.) smile

You have a fat, ugly semi automatic 357 Magnum with a horrible trigger. Congratulations.

Just kidding you a bit, we all know that Glocks are uberreliable and useful - for people that like ugly guns... smile 357 Sig is very very close to 357Magnum in speed etc but will not run the heaviest bullets as well, if at all. Has a good rep as far as a defensive round.

The 357 Sig is one of the best and in the Glock it is even better.

I carry the Hornady 124 gr. XTP Factory in both of my 357 Sigs

Agreed, for a serious gun it is near the top. I would like to have a Glock 23 or 23C 23C with the two barrel set up someday.

You planning to handload the .357 Sig? You may find that a challenging process smile

That said, the .357 magnum gained a superb reputation as a fight stopper, with 125 gr bullets at 1400 fps, and still meet current SAMI specs. The .357 Sig was designed to match that performance.

Should be a great package. It's likely to have quite a bit of muzzle flip, it'll be very loud, and the muzzle flash should be spectacular. Judcious handloading brings out the best of this cartridge, you should do this.

Actually the muzzle flip was a lot less with the 357 sig than the .40.

At the SHOT show, Glock had some printed material kind of like a magazine which had a display offering a 6" barrel for their .357 Sig. When the Glock reps were asked about it, none of them knew anything about it. A long barreled Glock in .357 Sig with adjustable sights would make a pretty nice hunting handgun I would think.

Like Tex n Cal, I'd rather not reload for it---heck, I'd rather take a beating than have to reload any truncated-case handgun cartridge, but since I don't enjoy reloading at all, that's JMO.

I have a Glock Model 31 - 357 Sig with a TLR2 Streamlight combo light/laser underneath. It's a good shooting gun and really applicable for situations at night when things go bump and need being checked out.

The 357 Sig in name leads people astray thinking it's a stubby, high pressured 357 Mag. It is "NOT."

The 357 Sig maybe should have been named the 9mm Super or the 355 Sig. It's still a great round, but to compare it to a 357 Magnum is only to compare watered down factory magnum ammunition. When loaded to full potential, the 357 Magnum is a beast and leaves behind the Sig round in the dust. Yet, a perp threatening your life at 25 feet won't know the difference when being hit twice to the chest and once in the head from the Sig, Magnum or a dozen other chamberings.

I've done a good bit of testing with water soaked newspaper and the 357 Sig to find that the 147 gr. Hornady XTP is a real good penetrating round, driving deep and having very controlled expansion, while the 125 gr. Speer Gold Dot is a quick expander, maintaining it's weight, and penetrating plenty enough for any self defense situation.

I read alot about Muzzle Flip and Torque when folks speak of the 357 Sig. In testing, if you "TEA CUP" hold your pistol then yes it'll jump around a bit but with a proper over wrap hold the pistol recoil back and is easily tamed.

Good luck with your new pistol, you'll find it's a winner when you need a little extra umph...

is your conversion barrel a GLOCK barrel (mine is)...I really like it...SiG developed the pistol and round (with Federal) to do one thing...everything else it does is gravy (or dam*ing wink )...replicate the 125GR .357 mag loads out of a 4 inch barrel that was popular in Law Enforcement and to get those STILL holding out with revolvers (in law enforcement) to go semi auto...it did for those and for many others who like the loading...hope you enjoy yours...I prefer mine over the .40 S&W...

I have both a factory and a storm lake barrel. The 31 was the original model for the 357 Sig.

I have the Wolf barrel in 357 Sig for my Glock 23 and it groups better than the Glock barrel and is dead on with the Factory Night Sights on my Pistol. Recoil wise if you can't handle the 357 Sig the get yourself a 22 lr. Personally any magnum pistol is loud in my opinion and you should use hearing protection for practice.

I've never loaded the .357 Sig, but I have loaded quite a few .400 Corbons, which is a very similar case configuration. You have to be very careful the bullet fits the neck tightly, and is well crimped, or it can set back in feeding, which is real bad news.

Factory loads usually have bullets with channellures, and they crimp in the channellure to prevent setback.

I believe the factory uses glue on the neck to protect from setback of the bullet

The 357Sig. has proven to be a better choice in LE application against hardened targets such as auto glass & body panels/doors. It's also good against human bodies to.

That's why agency's like the Tennessee Highway Patrol, dropped the 40S&W for the 357Sig. due to shooting situations that involved hardened targets. Many times of which the 40S&W wasn't giving good results, nor was it satisfactory to them on humans either.

Texas DPS also switched to the 357 SIG years ago.

I've got a SIG P229 in 40SW. Have been contemplating picking up a 357 SIG barrel myself.
